Forgive my IT ignorance but it's often said that anything you put in cyberspace is there for ever, in which case could the powers that be on the Zone access a snapshot of the above Zoners car for sale ad ( which he's now deleted ) so myself and others who this guy's scammed could get his phone No ?

I know a lot about cars. I can look at a car's headlights and tell you exactly which way it's coming

As you well know malc, banning someone from the site doesn't improve the chances of anyone establishing communication.daimlerman wrote:Bet that the mods, team members, have failed to ban the guy!
I have met wuĺlie, I bought an engine off him years ago but I've no idea what has led to the current situation. All we can hope for is that it is possible to find some contact details and go from there. Raising a virtual mob on here is unlikely to help in the short term.

But banning the guy does mean that he has ripped off his last zoner, though!Morat wrote:As you well know malc, banning someone from the site doesn't improve the chances of anyone establishing communication.daimlerman wrote:Bet that the mods, team members, have failed to ban the guy!

Granted, that's little help to those that appear to have suffered this time, but it does show that some-one cares enough to take positive action. It is this current lack of positive, visible action at the moment that is letting the zone down as a whole.

Is it possible that maybe he's on holiday, or being up in Scotland, working away offshore on the oil rigs, perhaps...

Entirely possible..... but a simple PM to those involved
would have avoided any possible misunderstandings.

We don't have any contact details for the guy, he's been marked as an "unreliable trader". Any other suggestions welcome.
We don't have a magic "fix the world" button. All trades are at the participants risk. If you choose to ignore the very clear warnings on Paypal trades to save a few quid, there's nothing the zone team can do to get your money back.
If we ban someone, there's nothing to stop them starting up a new account with a new name and ripping off more people. As an ex-team member Malc, you know this.

Ianb, only Steve has full admin access to the server and he's yet to give a definitive answer. However, I would suspect that since the threads are autopruned (ie deleted on a shedule) the only way to get this info would be from a backup. Whether we have a backup of the relevant time window is one question.
I don't know myself whether Steve has searchable backups from which he can restore a single post, or whether they are just for disaster recovery - ie for restoring the entire site in case of a hack/defacement/nightmare.
So, sorry to be of no use whatsoever but, we'll have to wait for Steve.
In the meantime, just keep pinging on whatever email/PMs you last had contact from.

I was never a team member,Miles,just a mere moderator!Morat wrote:What is there to explain?daimlerman wrote:So,'team',please explain yourselves.Ianb wrote:Amen to that Daimlerman

The banning stick is there to be used,by using it,you are demonstrating to all that there are sanctions that can and will be imposed.
By sitting back and wringing your collective hands,you are just sending out a different message,something like;
'Join up here and rip our members off,and bugger all will be done to stop you'
Is this the message that you really want to be sending?

Ok Malcolm, one more time for the hard of hearing
The team (including moderators) do not have any sanctions they can impose.
Banning a member who is the subject of current disputes is counter productive because it seals off the last method of communication. If we ban Wullie (who has yet to put his side of the story. He might be lying in a hospital bed for all anyone knows) then he won't be able to log in to even read the threads that complain about him unless he registers a new account. People who are in that situation might just walk away rather than log in and answer what is threatening to be a tirade of abuse.
So. Daimlerman, please stop posting on this thread. You are not helping anyone, least of all yourself. Please stop trying to imply that the zone team are in any way unconcerned by this turn of events. We ARE concerned and we're doing what we're can, but that isn't actually very much and it does NOT include banning a member when we need to talk to him.

I must admit I see Morat's point on this re him needing to get on here to contact people, indeed I may yet feel pretty shabby if it turns out he's got a legitimate reason for not responding! If a contact can be found then that would be a great help, in the meantime probably just best to let this lay.
I've certainly learnt my lesson re using Gift on Paypal and everyone else would be wise to as well unless they've checked and the feedback is perfect.
Thanks to all on here who've read this and if I hear anything I'll revert straight away.
Overall the Zoners I've met / dealt with have been above reproach untill now.

I should update this I think.
I purchased £350 worth of parts from Wullie through PayPal, paid £200 as a payment and £150 as a gift for two separate parts. I have only today got all my money back through PayPal. I got my gift back as well due to the circumstances, it seems Wullie has been scamming a few of us and must have numerous claims against him. It turns out he had sold the exact same parts he sold me to others in the same week, and they were fairly rare parts so it's almost certainly a scam.
Wullie emailed me after I bought the parts saying there had been two attempted deliveries, but the garage where my car is said nothing was ever attempted. I asked for the tracking number, and he then went quiet. I tracked him down on Facebook, found him, but he has chosen to ignore me on there as well.
I have my money back, but have wasted hours of my time over this. Stay away from him at all costs. This is not a case of an accident or parts going missing in the post - this appears to be an actively thought out intentional scam.
