Hi guys,

I've got an e30 316i lux 2 door which I have been starting up and running upto temperature for the last few days in time for its MOT Monday, she always runs rough when she doesn't get used for a long time (been off the road for a year) When running this evening, I had the heater on to get some warmth into the car as she's smelling a little damp. I noticed the temp going up, didn't go any higher than 3/4.

I turned it off, took the oil filler cap off.... Gunge, now not a clean looking mayonnaise, like you get when you get condensation in the rocker cover, this was well mixed with the oil :(

Anything I can check instantly? Water level has always sat right at the bottom of the expansion bottle and has never ever required a drop in the 6+ years I've had it. The dipstick had some bubbles on it but it didn't look like water, no mayonnaise on it either. Going to borrow a compression tester off my local Indy and see what that turns out!

She's also done 171,000 miles (done 30k faultless miles in it during my ownership)

Will be a bit miffed if the HG has gone on the E30 as my E46 M3 has popped its HG recently. And I'm rigorous about warming my engines up before driving them fast/hard.

Thanks in advance Jonesy (Aaron)
