Viewing a LHD 325i cabbie some time this week, finally.
It's an 86 reg car but has no side indicators :?
What is the MOT ruling on this?

Vehicles first used before 1 April 1986
A hazard warning device is not required by regulation, but, if one is fitted, it must be tested. e. that their operation is separate from, and not adversely affected by the operation of any other lamp e. adversely affected by the operation of another lamp eg dual function lamps on foreign vehicles
2. Check the selector switch for presence, security, condition and operation. 2. A missing, insecure or faulty selector switch.

H,mmm this could/should be a very early Reg cab.

LHD non-UK spec cars seem not to have wing repeaters.
The feed for them is part of the dash loom, and it's not there on LHD cars!

Be worth trying for an MoT,afterall,it would not be a requirement in the car's home market.

The rules are very clear and are as above. Anything first used after 1st April 1986 must have side repeaters fitted for a valid uk mot.

No ifs, no buts, straight forward and simple

Some mot testers might turn a blind eye to it, but it doesn't mean it's right.

There is an exception for cars with wraparound front indicators, but they must be visible from a rear 3/4 view. So definitely doesn't apply to e30s
cheers,

Malc, it HAS a current MOT, which makes me suspect it's a pre 1 April 1986 car.

There's a very long complicated, sad story behind this, which makes it
difficult to speak to the cars owner.
Hopefully, all will be resolved later this week.

Most MOT testers probably don't know the actual law regarding side repeaters.

I know for a fact the 2 other testers at my place wouldn't have a clue about this.

As said above pre April 1986 aren't required to have side repeaters. My S1 was the same and mot was fine
