After seeing the post about a zoner's missus gettin her car nicked, just thought I'd enquire about the security of our e30's..
I have a H plate 318i and it has a BMW alarm and immobiliser, which I believe to have been factory fitted as an optional extra.
It works off the Central locking Remote so there isn't an obvious place to start puttling wires to get round the immobiliser.
Is it any use?
What alarms have you guys got? I have protected no-claims now so would particularly mind if the car was nicked but I have a lot of baby stuff in there that I would be p*ssed to lose.

Are BMW factory fitted alarms/immobilisers any good?

My car still has the original factory system on it (that sounds the same as yours). Dont know if it makes you feel any better, but I had to get a letter from my local BMW dealer a while back listing the spec of the system for my Insurance company and it seemed to satisfy all of their conditions.

Take me about 5 sec to bypass the immobilizer and kill the alarm once the bonnets open, but they satisfy insurance cos.

live wire to fuel pump - cut and join in wiring and switch then mount the switch under the dash or something

The alarm arrangement that would slow me down is one that short circuits the fuel pump supply after the fuse, as well as disconnecting the ignition feed.
Any attempt to jump the ignition feed will then pop the fuel pump fuse.
