Anyone got or had kumho ecsta SPT ku31 tyres on their e30 ? Or anyone any thoughts/expirience of them

Reason being, I need 2 sets of tyres, one set will be a premium set continental, but for the 2nd set ... I've got 2 of these tyres in near brand new condition that were on a breaker, I'm not sure weather to buy 2 more brand new ones and make a set, or to get 2 of something else , ideally I'd like to get the use out of these

They are £57 a pop, falken or uni rain sport 3s are an extra tenner , but would look nicer with all matching tyres

Any thoughts ?

Never had them on an e30 but used them on other performance cars and I rate them for the price, fairly soft but last pretty well. going for toyo TR1 on the BBS this time though as I've been told they are best for money if high miles isn't a requirement

I've used the ku31s on all my E30s in 205/55/15 form. They handled the S50 no problems and have lasted on my 318i and 325i. I don't drive fast but do like a bit of fun, especially when the Sport had 290bhp... winkeye

I think the last two 15s I had were £51 each fitted and I've just had one 205/55/16 at £57 fitted. I used to pay £45 fitted a couple years ago!

I Have Khumos on the 530 and although a great tyre, I find them quite noisy? Certainly noisier than the Contis I had.

But they grip well enough and the wear rate seems fairly good.

For the money they take some beating.

Excellent thanks for the response in going to go with them, think £127 delivered is best price I've seen for 2 , most places seem same sort of price, anyone find a better price ?

I've got a nice full set of p6000s I've amassed but i don't want to use them on an e30

I run KU39's on the daily, previously had Bridgestone, then Conti, then pilot sports 3 and now the Khumos, which are by far the best. (Handling, grip, feedback, noise etc).

Also run V70's on the track turd.

Whilst we are here, what are the thoughts on "the best" premium tyre for an e30 ?

All depends on size as to what's available.

Kumho is good tyres, but Marshal is the same tyre, just different name and cheaper,we used to be Kumho dealer few years ago,and both Kumho and Marshal was coming from the same place, same grip etc, just different price...
I drive marshal on my e30 on r15 and i like them.
Will check what price i can get for you tomorow.

I've had the kumhos on a fwd and they were the best I'd had til then. I've since been converted to the Michelin pilot exalto 2. They were in a different league to any other tyre I've had. Ive wanted to try the continental sport contact but not done so yet.
How were the pilot sport 3's I couldn't get 205 50 15 in the pe2 again.
I would still rate the kumhos well.

I've got this dilemma myself. With the temperatures warming up its time to get the winter bottletops off and get the 15" BBS' back on. They currently sport Vredestein Sportrac 3s but they're now 7 years old and lacking tread! I might stick with Vredestein (Sportrac 5s), Continentals or the new Uniroyal Rainsport 3s as they've been reviewed well. The Kumho's are a possibility but I'm a bit put off by a lot of comments regarding their excessive road noise which seems to worsen as they wear. The Goodyear Ultragip 8s on my winter wheels are near enough silent. The Kumhos are very keenly priced though.

Well it is down to price , I'm mainly going with them because I have 2 near new ones already so 120 to make a nice full set (1 continental costs near that) suits me

I've read that on tyre review site about the noise, yet some say a good rotating policy avoids that

At the end of the day of course for the money they won't be perfect in every dept, a bit more noise isnt much of an issue on a 6pot roaring non daily e30 anyway

My Ku39's are much quieter than the pilot sport 3's I had on there before.

Well, I've gone for these in the end. My local tyre supplier can provide and fit these for £61 per corner which seems a bargain. I would've gone for the Vredestein Sportrac 5s but they could only source 2 of them. Nearly went for Continentals (£100 each) but I'm going to give the Falkens ago. The ZE914 seems to be receiving good reviews and looks to be a big step up from the ZE912, especially in the wet. Should be getting them fitted later this week.

Tyre choice in 205x55x15 guise gets ever more depressing. There is such a limited choice now. :(

if i didnt already have 2 kumho i would og for the falkens as a full set, bought a pair of 192s brand new for my old 318is , had them on the rear and couldnt fault them and gripped well, over a year of daily driving use later and they still looked like new, report back how you find the 914s id be interested to hear, if a big step up from 912s they must be fantastic, more so for the money

I thought 912s were the worst tyres I have ever spent my own money on ( I.e not already fitted to a car or set of wheels I've bought ) it really put me off the falken brand even though I'd previously really liked the 452.
cheers,

Time will tell!

The 912s seems to be a love/hate tyre from reviews I've read but the 914s seem to be receiving more universal praise. The main complaint of the previous generation seems to be how they handled in the wet but it appears this has been resolved (hopefully!). The Vredesteins I've currently got were a great tyre in the rain so it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Apart from the Goodyears on my winter wheels I don't think I've purchased any other make of tyre apart from Vredestein in the last 12 years. They're what I've always put on my E30s and E36s. I can't remember what YingYong Ditchfinders were on my old E46 but they came with the car and were awful! It was immobile in snow.

Why exactly ?

I never had any trouble and that car liked a drive, got them on recommendation of Felix who had them on his alpina at the time and he drove that like it was a crime to go slow , plenty of other zoners gave them good reviews
