Well, my electric aerial got frozen stuck in the up position last week so some tosser decided to snap it off :-x

Got this one from Les Smith (when they were still around). Can't seem to find a replacement anywhere. :(

I was thinking of either getting a direct replacement (preferable) or maybe getting an internal one and then using some kind of plug to cover up the hole made by the old one.

Anyone recommend a place to get a new electric aerial (without spending a bomb) or an internal jobby? Is there a special name for the part that plugs up the hole in the wing if I where to go the internal route?

Electric ariels are about Ԛ£35 new from most car accessory shops, or keep an eye out on ebay as they go for about Ԛ£15 (thats where I got mine).
Failing that, you could always go for the plastic ariel from the E30.

fill in the hole and put in a wire-type aerial around your back window or something - that's what i did, smoother and more importantly no rust! (it is a good place for rust to develop)

If you have the original Hirschmann one then can't you just buy the mast itself. I did this on mine when I got my car. Very easy to replace ... takes about 3 mins. Just turn on the stereo so the mast rises and keep pulling the mast until the plastic tail comes out. Then line up the new tail down the hole, turn off stereo and it will wind the new mast in.
Far cheaper than a new one ....

Is it an easy job to do then? Mine was swiped months back, but as I have a CD player it doesnt particularly bother me, but would be handy to be able get the traffic reports on the radio this winter!

Took me about an hour yesterday evening. The OEM one fits straight in. the only problem i had was that it uses a different power plug, so just swiped the end off the one in the car and wired on a set of bullet plugs and it's all sorted. Spent most of the time tyring to find a bolt after i sheared the mounting thread.
