i bought this off pacerpete about 3 years ago i think but sold it on to a drifter :(

Anyone seen or heard of it? A guy pm'd me off here about it a while ago but i've lost his PMs as he was going to buy it.

I was just re thinking of the light weight bottom end i put in it from the thread about the exploded block

I hope its on the road still :) Fastest 325i i ever had after my tinkering

If I remember correctly they drifter you sold it to had it advertised but don't know if it was sold on.

Drifters don't tax cars so may still be alive.

I'll keep looking, I remember the photos and spiel and some of the spec but not anything useful. Was it along the lines of m50b25 crank, m52b28 rods and m20 slugs? A few Kg rotational mass saving with out machining, bar the flywheel iirc?

Was this the one with the M50 crank? I was searching for some details on it a while back but couldn't find anything.

It was an M52b25 crank which was about 3.5kgs lighter than the M20b25 crank. Also a lightened flywheel which brought the total weight loss to 7kgs off the rotating mass on the bottom end. It also had a BBR starchip and it was totally different to drive to a stock 325i. You would never know as it idled. Powelly was the only other zoner to drive it and he loved it, he was driving his stock 325i 4dr at the time so had a better idea of how it felt.

It was alot more like the C2 2.7 touring at the time, alot flatter top end obviously with the stock head and camshaft but was alot more alive grunty below 3000 rpm where you really notice it driving on the roads. Also was alot more eager to rev, from any RPM. The BBR chip removes that slight flatspot a stock 325i has at around 2000rpm with a touch more bite top end

If you wanted to get a bit more some M52 from a 2.8 are 135mm long (M52 rod bolts are shorter and lighter than M20 ones!) would help which don't quote are a good 100 grams per rod lighter still. So thats another 0.6kgs at least. Then the stock pistons are massive, you could get a bit off the skirts also. I could of got a little more off the flywheel also

All with a stock camshaft. I imagine with a alpina spec cam and their ECU it would really motor!

I'll have a concerted effort to look for pictures.

Ah, I knew it was a B25 crank. That's a shame, I've got an M50 bottom end...

Anyone know how it would compare with a 2.8 build in terms of weight saving?

Nice one Simon, I have all the ingredients in stock, including a already lightened flywheel, was it vanos or non vanos crank? Have both and a 2.8 crank as well but prefer the sound of this as it keeps the 135mm rods. What profile cam do you think would suit this build?

Also looked through your 2 door thread and couldn't find anything apart from the first appearance of the bronzit from page 80ish onwards

I bought this car to fit the engine from my alpina into it and run it in as such put a few thousand miles on it then take it out and put it into the alpina, then sell the bronzit on. Well we all know it blew up! But i had this car with its engine out and some spare random engine bits in the garage the idea came to be and it seemed rude not to

All M52s are single vanos forget the 2.8 builds this was a see how much weight i can save on a M20b25 bottom end exercise in the end. A complete bolt in job as such. The 2.5's rev much better than the 2.7's etc I'd use maybe a 270 degree cam maybe but then its getting compicated and you need the right mapping to make use of it all.

It cost me about £200 to build it for a new set of shells, rod bolts and sump gasket thats literally all i changed when it was on the engine stand plus cambelt . Powellys machine man made me the spacer for the crank nose you need to use when fitting M52 cranks to M20s for nowt also
