E30 m3 or porsche 993
Moderator: martauto
Hi guys, been a BMW enthusiast for a long time, but can't help but taking a fancy to the 911, 993 in particular. Anyone have any views on looks and the way the 993 would compare to the m3. I already have an m3 that I'm considering chopping in for the 911, can't have both unfortunatley. Any views welcome!
Nice dilemma. I think the original 911 shape is one of the finest looking cars ever styled. But... test drive required.

993 with no hesitation! I've had a 964 and it will always be the best car I've ever owened I'm sure, stunning drive in every way and I'm told the 993 was a a lot better! The drive I had of an m3 was in no way shabby but a 911 is just without comparison, build quality, steering, handling (ignore the "to heavy at the rear" nonsense)
It was a few years ago now and I traded my e36 m3 for the 911 and it made the e36 look clumsy, even though the m3 was a bit quicker, the m3 is a sports version of a saloon car, the 911 is a sports car full stop!
They are marmite cars though and many would disagree with my humble views. I will one day have a 993!

Yeah, your right, it's that shape I love, and the sound of that air cooled flat 6. But saying that, tha handling and balance in the m3 is awesome, and when the s14 comes on cam, well, it's motoring bliss, it i don't take the plunge though, I'll always be wondering.

They are both appreciating assets, if you decide against the 993 in time, it will have made money at a similar rate to the m3, the s14 power band is great but the torque of the flat 6 is so smooth and then they give an extra shove at 5500 rpm all the way through the red bit........ I'm banging on now, I do miss it

I've got both.
Different beasts completely. Both as good as each other to be far in there own ways.
From having driven a e30 m3 my first impressions of the 993 was that it handled shit! I then put 18s on it coilovers and had it set up properly. Also a quaife LSD. Now it drives so much better!
Porsche is just that much more executive!

993 for sure!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Going to look at a 993 next week, and poss come to a deal with him with my M3, if I don't like the car, ill probably keep my E30 and spend the extra money on a carbon airbox and alpha n. The 993 is polar silver with rs clubsport kit, needs a bit of tlc, but most cars of that age do anyway.

993 Turbo 4S with Porsche Manual Gearbox for me
For the looks the power the speed
Never forget seeing one whoop an E39 M5 butt on the M4 in 2001
Or
993 Carrera 2S Coupe with Porsche Manual Gearbox
For the looks, NA throttle response, noise, speed though bit slow nowadays
I know someone with one of these

Go for a manual. Varioram is best. 2wd better.
Avoid blue and dark grey leather.

the turd should fetch top money if all is correct,I'm fairly sure by now your inundated with pm's and silly offers..M42 wrote:It's a lachsilver evo1, I've had her fully restored from top to bottom, she's in superb condition with not so much as a swirl mark. But the itch for a 911 is pretty strong and has to be scratched.

the 993 is a truly epic car i doubt you will look back

The car needs for nothing, she's with 4 star classics at the moment but getting her back next week, to possibly strike a deal with the porsche owner, I suppose I should have tried to sell it privately but I didn't want to deal with the phone calls and time wasters.
