Does anyone know of a higher reading speedo
that is a direct fit into the cluster housing?

Nearly :P

The needle just stops after a certain point but the car continues to pull on like a train.

**Testing took place on a private road of course**

If you want to keep it stock looking (i.e. the original E30 dial face), then surely something like the guts of one of these grafted to the back of the standard cluster using the E30 needle and dial face would work wonders.

Be easier to use a sat-nav to give a speed reading on this private motorway... :D

Yeah well the sort of plan is,
to get something that reads round about the same as that one Chris but fabricate it so the whole thing sits inside the E30 cluster housing,
but im worried about the connections on the rear, and also the actual overall size of the thing,
diameter/width etc
and weather it would wire up to the board/pins in the cluster or not,
but more importantly, read right.

i'm thinking whatever i get, be it like the one you pointed towards
or
the VDO from Summit racing...

it's going to be a mission to get it in the housing and working :?

Pha, this fandangled new age technology always breaks around me :P

I would just like to see if it can actually be done or if it has been done before,

could easily just hook up a "heads up display" that runs via gps,
but i want to sort of keep it looking reasonably ..... factory ... ish

You could fit an M3 speedo - they read up to 160mph.

could you put a resistor or something so that the speedo reads slower?

On the jap imports, you normally get a 'box of tricks' (usually a resistor) which slows the speedo down so that the km/h reads as the mph.

Then maybe get someone like Pukkar to print out new dials?
