Been running my old 316 with weber as a daily for a while now. Just worked out my ballpark mpg and its 23 8O 8O 8O
What the dickens is going on there? No obvious problems like fouled plugs. It's just breezed the emissions test by a country mile.

On the plus side, I can start using a 325 to commute in and it'd probably be better!

Out of interest, original spec suggests it should be around 35.

Am I just thrashing it too hard?

Anyway, I think it's gonna be a fond farewell. Anyone looking for a very pretty chromie 2 door for an engine conversion?

Is it manual or automatic, and what sort of journeys do you do?

Does it have manual choke or an automatic one, as they can make quite a difference to mpg.

I had a Weber twin-choke on a 2-litre Fiat twin cam and I eventually got it to return 30+ mpg average following a strip down and rebuild and good clean-out of all the jets and passages - they get blocked easily.

It's a manual with manual choke. The commute is jams, blast down the m621, more jams and crawling then a bit of A road cruising.

Magpie - it's wine red mate. A heavy drinking colour, that :D

If you're regularly sitting in traffic jams, you won't get very good mpg in any car, since you're using fuel to go hardly any distance.

If you were to take the car on a decent uninterrupted run, you'll probably see closer to the 35 mpg it's supposed to do.

Then 23 is fine. It's an old carburettor engine designed over 50 years ago. Forget what the BMW fantasy figures suggest, real world overall is 23.8 according to Motor mag. Only the M40 engined cars got anything like 30 mpg overall.

Yes. My 318Ti averages 27, combining a 3.5 miles commute and a bit of other stuff. The 320d does 32 in the same conditions.
