The 4hp22 box on the 320 does not have this or a wire to connect to this plug so would the box out of the 325 work regardless of nothing being connected to the plug?

Hi just wondering what the differences are in the 4hp22 auto boxes? i have a leaky unit in my 87 320i and have a spare from a 87 325i both boxes are 4hp22(not eh) but the one from the 325 has a plug on the gearbox as pictured below:

the 325 one is a switch able one with electronic kickdown and the switch on the centre consol. The one in your 320i is the non switch version with a cable kick down.
As far as i'm aware they're not interchangable
