Just a heads up i sold my 318IS a while back and its now back up for sale again but just so anyone who may be intrested knows when i sold the car it had about 180k on it. Current seller does say the clocks have been changed but is trying to point towards it only having about 130k on the clock

When I purchased the car it had a blown head gasket and as I didn't know if it had been driven whilst over heating I purchased another engine. I managed to get a very low mileage engine from a left hand drive imported 318is.
seems fair to me .

I wasn't suggesting he was a total scammer just letting anyone on here know the history of the car if they are intrested in said car
Does look in a bit of a sorry state compared to when i had it

It was the reason i sold it was because the head gasket, starter motor and gear box gave up all at the same time.pacerpete wrote:pac1982 wrote:I wasn't suggesting he was a total scammer just letting anyone on here know the history of the car if they are intrested in said car

I stated all this in the advert and still managed to serve it for around £800 iirc
I was talking about the cosmetics

Well chaps, I'm the guy who bought it. Very happy with the car and the way it drives (bar the timing chain rattle). All suspension/brake work was carried out recently, and the seller spent over £3000 on the car in the last three years. There is no rot either, all rust is very much surface deep!
It would be nice if I could have an accurate milage on the clock, my E34 has 220,000 on the clock and I sort of feel high milage can add character to a car as long as it is mechanically sound.
The seller was very honest walking me round every problem area and explaining how I should go about fixing it, so like I say - i'm really happy.
My project for the time being is to restore it to a more standard look... Today i've been de-tinting, replacing the lights (thanks magpie) and putting a legal plate on it.

its a strong car i spent a small fortune having all the bushes replaced inc rear bushes, diff, full suspension re work etc
As you say its a bit frilly around the egdes but nothing to serious, worst of it when it was in my ownership was some bubbling around the scuttle.
Have to admit i do miss her if you ever looking to sell give me a nod always nice to get an old car back should the time suit.

Well its great to find out a bit more history about the car! I don't think its got an LSD anymore, better check tomorrow though, but its good to hear suspension is all sound. This is my first E30 and i'm very very impressed so far.
The paint is very flat now so I think they next step is to invest in a decent polisher and spend a good few hours getting a shine back.
Out of interest do you have any photos of it from when you had it?
Cheers!

Awesome, looked a pretty sweet motor a few years ago. Certainly gives me a bit of motivation to get it looking good again.
Just trying to get something done every day. Today i've cleaned the ICV and fixed some split vacuum tube. Now you can pull away without even touching the throttle!
Think at some stage i'm going to have to put stock springs in the rear, I think the lowered ones are causing a lot of inside rear tyre wear and at the moment i've got mismatched wheel colours.
Standard BBSs' all the way!!

The suspension on it is considered one of the best set ups for road use some folk go for B8's but they are a bit harder

Oh nice to know. It certainly flies around corners!
Am I right in thinking there is no camber adjustment for the rear on an E30? This tyre wear is pretty serious so alas i'm going to have to do something. Got about 6mm on the outside and 3mm on the inside.
I'm wondering if you sold it to the guy I bought it from or whether someone else was in the middle. I got the car from Wantage, near Oxford.
Cheers!

I don't think they should do it but most the BMW's I've driven have worn the inner tyre.
The toyo tyres its running are very grippy but also a bit soft and may well still be the same 4 I fitted some time ago if so they've done well
Not sure if its been sold again since
Does the exhaust still knock under hard cornering?

Ah interesting about that being a general BMW problem. My E34 has slightly more worn inners thinking about it.
Yep exhaust does knock round corners. I gave my mum a spin and she was convinced that there was somebody in the boot! Going to have to weld/get that welded on properly.
I must be the only person in the country hoping for a bit of rain, can't wait to see if this is more powerslideable than the auto fiver.
I was wondering what the crater in the centre console came from. Did you have a screen up top and head unit in the bottom? The electrics are a bit of a mess at the moment, I have no clue how to get the electric ariel to go up!
Do you know which diff was in the car when you sold it, was it the standard 4.1?
Thanks

I've always been in to my car audio and it had quite a crazy system, not to everyones taste but it sounded great..........

The wiring behind the dash was in a sorry state when i got hte car but becuase i was using a 4 channel amp for my speakers and a mono amp for my bass i didn't really use any of the original audio wires
As far as i know it has a standard diff, defo didnt have an LSD in my time with the car.
Careful you dont write it off in the wet dude, i want a chance to buy it back when your and if you move on

I've spent about 6 hours T-Cutting the paint back to a really nice shine, and i've just put a standard grille on. Next area to focus on is smartening up the interior.

Sounds good! I'm just beyond Cirencester, so not miles away. A local friend of mine has just bought a 318iS too. Definitely need to install a thermostat and check out the timing chain before I drive too much.smithysmith wrote:coolwe should have a cotswolds iS meet.
But perhaps in a few weeks time we could go for a little B road bash!
