Anybody notice the difference the hot weather is making to filling speeds?
I didnt think it would make much difference but the local suppliers pump is struggling to fill tanks, im only getting about 70% at the mo, the guy at the pump is saying its because cars tanks are hotter and at a greater pressure.
Are they talking crap or is this possible? Personally I think their pump is about f***ed but they dont want to admit it! :D

It's true that the pump will have to work harder in hot weather to fill the tank, because the internal pressure of the tank will be higher, unless it's empty, but any decent pump should have plenty in reserve to overcome that, and the total fill shouldn't be affected at all.
What is true is that LPG coming from a surface mounted tank that has heated up in the sun is considerably less dense than when cold, and you get significantly less calorific value for your money.
In hot weather, always try to buy from an underground tank, one that is in the shade, or first thing in the morning.

Ive not noticed much difference between hot and cold fills TBH, biggest fill ive ever had with my E34 was 49 litres, must have been in the summer but cant remember exactly. Usual fill from empty is 47 ish.
Ive never known an underground LPG tank, thought they will all above ground

The number of litres you buy may be the same, hot weather or cold, but the total weight of the LPG, which is what matters, will be less when it's hot.
The same thing happens to a much smaller extent with petrol, but they are temperature compensated, whereas LPG pumps are not, nor subject to tests by trading standards.

Well, at least the price drops significantly in the summer, unlike the other dreaded fuels!

Brian is right , the best time to fill up is early morning,it can make a difference albeit small.

Bulk deliveries have a factor built in to compensate, over 2000 litres it makes a noticeable difference.

We are all loving the prices at the moment...my last fill was 273 miles for £27.30 of lpg ...10pence per mile ,i can live with that.

cheers Keith

The density reduces 0.16% per degree centigrade, so now, with temperatures up around 15 degrees from earlier in the year, you are paying for about 2.5% of energy that you don't get, or, put another way, you are being done out of about 1.7p per litre.

I can't believe the prices at the moment. There are several places nearby well under 70ppl where they were up around 75 in spring. Fantastic :) Our local ASDA has underground LPG tanks, but it's a relatively new supermarket so it seems to have stocked LPG from when it opened. The BPs in the area have big Flo-Gas tanks round the back.

Petrol there is about 2ppl though too, and you have to pay at the drive through thing...went there once as I needed fuel, never again.

??? What's wrong with "the drive through thing"? Don't have to get out of the car, and the only place I know of where I can still use a credit card and not have to remember the PIN.

I'd rather use my PIN and having to sign, so old fashioned. :P
I don't like having my card out of my sight when paying for things. If they had a chip and pin machine by the window it'd be good.

It must be really annoying when busy too as at least with Tesco, shell etc. you have pay at pump taking some of the slack. With the booth everyone has to queue up.

Anyway, is way off topic. No LPG for me, only petrol but then my car is a toy not an every day use thing.

That is going to be a VERY useful site, Dan. Thanks for the link!
The pink "account only" sites in the Taunton to Birmingham to Swindon area are mostly Countrywide (agricultural merchants) 24/7 pumps, dotted around in little compounds on industrial estates, which you access with a key and PIN. Well worth having an account if you travel around in that area 'after hours'.

Looking at this list with incredulity. LPG is only 42p a litre over here :D

I'm a bit frightened to go in to GT sometimes when they have that weird manequin on the front gate
Thought there must be a catch with the prices but I get the same miles as the other stuff so musn't grumble!
