Do you think those heavy duty cables used to run an amp for a sub woofer would be suitable to use for a DIY battery in boot setup?[/img]

No. The factory cable is far heavier duty than sub cables.

The one battery cable has a built in "fusable link" for safety as well.
Best to get the complete kit from a Breaker yard if possible.

Factory power cable from battery in boot is circa 150mm2 iirc. An amp cable will be around 30mm2 at best.

4 gauge or 2 gauge cable will be suffcient, for the fusable link use a 8 gauge cable with a fuse holder. Fuse can be 40A .
I have just completed mine , but I am running dual batteries with an isolator for the audio section.
Removed the stock cable , replaced with 2 lengths of 4 gauge and used fuse and distibution .

THanks dude, I will take some pics of the cables under the sterring wheel and the rest of the car, everything has been sleeved in snake skin and treated to some new fabric tape.
The alarm system (Aftermarket) took me 3 days to wire up due to the sleeving.
I removed the front mount battery thingy ma bob and replcaed the power cables from Alternator to battery and starter as I needed to wire the isolator in.
