As my front tyres need changing, i am torn between the 205/50/16's or 195/50/16's.
I would like to go to 195's to reduce the tramlining, but would 10mm make a difference ?

205's all round.
Then at least you can rotate them etc. Silly to me to have different fronts and rears, but thats IMHO.

I dont do the tyre rotating thing, i just replace them an axle at a time.
I currently am running 205/50/16 in all four corners.

Well I'd stick with that if I was you. 10mm will make sod all differance in the tram lining dept.
I have only been doing the rotating thing since I bought the car so they all wear out at the same time and I can buy a matching set.

u shouldn't get tramlining with 16's. Pete E30 tourer had this problem, the cause? Sh!te tyres. Buy the best u can afford.
I've been running 16's for over 3 years and have never suffered from it.
stick with the proper size imo 205/50/16
Also when i did think tramlining was happening it turned out it was my rear sub frame bushes which were shagged and making it drive all over the place, steering from the rear etc
Tramlining is for 17inch alloys and above!

My 323i tramlines with 205/50/16's and they are reasonably good tyres (Toyo Trampio R1R semi-motorsport tyres). It follows the ruts and things in the road. I guess it is possible that it is the rear subframe bushes because they are worn out (it is getting them replaced right now) but it has tramlined for the 2 years I have owned it and I have only noticed the subframe bushes in the last few months. Maybe they were still a bit worn 2 years ago though because now they are completely gone. I will find out when I get it back, hopefully on Monday.
