At home respray, where to buy bulk paint 5lt?

Planning to do an at home respray have brilliantred colour, and very bad Laquer peel on rear 1/4 planning to respray both rear quarters and rear end, wings and doors I will take off do rust repair and spray off the car, bonnet is brand new,
Bumpers will come off as well for a seperate respray,

Only thing remaining is roof and c pillars,

Would a 5lt tin cover it? Would obv prefer one big tin instead of seperate litre tins etc incase the shade varies, Ive asked a few body shops they all said no, halfords can only supply a 1litre tin,

5 litres will do a whole car.

Do you have any experience with spraying paint? Are you aware of the equipment requirements and the health risks? It's not for the faint hearted.

Most paints are water based now which is good. You must NOT spray 2 pack paint at home without the correct respirator equipment. You need a compressor that will keep up with the gun and also very very importantly a compressed air dryer.

I used to spray guitars. Which believe it or not is almost exactly the same process as with cars. There are loads of places around that will supply paint at a much more competitive price and quality than halfords. I used to use a company called jr paint supplies up here in sunny Gloucestershire

yeah ive got a mate who will be helping out he knows his stuff, will be thouroughly cleaning/ jetwashing the garage, plastic sheeting all around, got an extractor fan and ducts, mask, eye protection, full body suit and gloves, got an air compressor as well,

got four gas heaters which i hope should be enough to essentially "bake the paint" and cure it so it is touch dry, then il let it sit for about a week until completely dry,

ive been practising on a few panels for a couple of months as well,

only thing that worries me is that the garage isnt big enough for a one off respray, il have to spray one side and the back then let it dry and respray the other side...

Fair play. Well the only thing I would say is, if you cannot get round the whole car in one. Pick a line you can hide the first and second spray in. Ie all except the doors, wing and quarter panel down one side. If not you will have a bastard of a job getting it to match.

Best advice is little and often. And the surface on top is only as good as what's underneath.

There are loads of places about that supply car paint. Google is your friend on that one mate.

As said, there's plenty of paint factors about. Plus they know their paint, unlike most colleuges at Halfords. Sounds like you're well prepped.

Be careful with those GAS heaters though!!!!!!

Yeah il try and attempt to "mist" it in the centre so its easier to match both sides, should be fine I've done a spray on a wing and its come out nice!

Got a lot more to do, loads of little dings and chips, got some welding on the rear valance, dent in rear, going to buy new bumper trim, rubbers, prob new windscreen, sunroofs also rusted allready got a clean one ready to be sprayed,

Will take a couple of before and after pics!

Make sure the compressor is drained and as water free as possible before you start. The same with the air hose. And make sure you have a hose that delivers good flow, not one of those horrible plastic spiral ones.

Nice one! You've got me curious about the gas heaters now?

Water vapour (burning calor or similar produces lots of water)and spread dust by the convection of air, its not great, use electric heat if possible in a garage at home.
