Hi people, as most of you know I am on the hunt for an e30. I have seen a green baur convertible that I love. however my husband (also known to the old lot as nelly) is putting me of it. whats the general feel on baur convertibles? I really like it. opions needed! (sorry mods if this is in the wrong place please move if it is. please remember I am new! thanks.)

have to admit i prefer tha normal cab as its a much smoother look. You can get a later car as well.

No, i think they are cool!
There are some nice examples about.
The only thing i would say is that its not a very safe E30, the stiffness of the car would also be reduced, the parts are expencive and the extra noise from not having a roof is not something i could live with as a everyday all season car!

But I really really like this car I have seen. Not a thing needs to be done to it (alright I want new wheels and a new steering wheel)Conan wrote:have to admit i prefer tha normal cab as its a much smoother look. You can get a later car as well.

Well most of the roof is removed, and the parts left are not exatly strong, so if the car were to be hit from the side/roll over a baur would offer less protection than a tin top E30.

All I can add is dont buy it from the heart, get it checked over find out if it has any problems etc etcWeezieGirl wrote:But I really really like this car I have seen. Saying that I bought the first touring I looked at in the flesh, looked at loads on the net. but ended up with a 66k minter but even that needed work. Cambelt, rear axle mounts etc

Aaaahhhhh, people I feel that if I am going to own a e30 then I should know about them. I will not pretend that I have a clue about them! because I do not. What should I look out for. I want to go this alone. (nelly knows that I want to do this alone)

History, history and historyWeezieGirl wrote: What should I look out for.
Thats the one thing that will show you what its has had done to it and what it hasnt had done to it. Obvoulsly delve a little deeper into the things that can go wrong and here is the best place for that.
I changed my cambelt because a garage recomended that I do it and I couldnt see in the 3inch high stack of history that came with mine that it had been done previously.

I once bought an E30 316 off an insurance company with no history as it was a theft recovery and owned it for 8 years with no problems, well perhaps minor problems that any car can throw up from time to time. But its a gambleWeezieGirl wrote:Cotty I am ashamed to admit that there is no history with it, is this a problem?
Thing is without history how can you tell how it has been treated in the past, ie regular servicing, fixing faults when they occour (spelling aaahhh) a car with history can tell a lot but previous owners, did they use main dealers, BMW specialist, dodgy crooks etc
Depending where you are located one of the kind people on the Zone could have a look at your intended purchase and give it the once over

No problem. I understand that at 34 I am probably at the upper age range of this site but if we ie the site do not keep a certain level of decorum then the young ladies that choose to visit and participate in the forum/meets etc will be discoraged in coming back or continuing to post ant hat would be a shame.WeezieGirl wrote:I'd like to thank you, I hate it when the word bird is used!Cotty180 wrote: "Young lady"
god I sound like an old fart now, anyway after an evening of talking cars and an empty beer fridge im going to call it a night see you all tomorrow, well perhaps not literally as your all over the country and the world but you get the gist.
