Lots and lots of info in the Wiki about this. For starters, here's your footwell problem:

And here's the whole guide to the engine swap:

What do you mean by battery wiring?

hmm, the wiki there about wet footwell and the heater- surely a leak/rust is the more common likley and 1st thing to check ? the bungs and rear bungs and jacking points 1st port of call to check as opposed to heater, before then moving on to other things

if you have access to a watering can or hose pipe i would do a trial and error exercise. That is unless you can see daylight through the floor pan or bulkhead

also- get the carpets lifted up from either side removing the speaker panel and sill trims, seats out aswell but not essential, from underneath life up one of the little plstic bungs, and squeeze all the water out with your foot

Dabbing your finger in the fluid to taste if its coolant, versus taking up the entire carpet looking for a hole?polsta wrote: surely a leak/rust is the more common likley and 1st thing to check ?
You're right that a hole/rust is more likely, but it's not the easiest thing to to check, which is why it's not first on the list.

If the damp in the footwell smells of coolant it's more than likely the heater valve, pipe, then matrix. Easier to check that first rather than going on a rust hunt, how many of us really want to do that?polsta wrote:hmm, the wiki there about wet footwell and the heater- surely a leak/rust is the more common likley and 1st thing to check ? the bungs and rear bungs and jacking points 1st port of call to check as opposed to heater, before then moving on to other things
