M3 mirrors are the same as ordinary E30 mirrors, but those for LH drive cars are different from those for RH drive.

What is the actual difference though?

I'm pretty sure there's enough adjustment in the motors to be able to adjust the mirrors on a rhd e30 to be able to see behind clearly when sat in the passenger seat, and vise versa.

If you compare a N/S and an O/S mirror you will see that the base plate is different. The difference is reversed on LHD cars. Even fully adjusted, you cannot see properly without moving in your seat.

curiouser and curiouser. I'm going to have to try it now

In the absence of being able to get hold of a lhd mirror couldnt you shim behind the motor to add a little more tilt in the desired direction?
cheers,

Just swap the mechanism from your LHD mirror and it will be fine. I did this 7 years ago and had no problem.

How does that work ? :?

ALL E30 mirrors have exactly the same motor and it is not sided.

There's a huge difference between LHD and RHD mirror housings, you wont be able to adjust them enough to compensate.

This is a great example.

Notice the difference between the two mirrors.
