Following on from capnmchl's thread in care and detailing, what else can you do with linseed oil on an E30?
It worked bloody wonders for the black rubber on my Tech 1 spoiler, so what else? Tyre walls? Interior (dash etc.)? Other black trim? Window rubbers etc?
Grateful for thoughts.
Linseed oil uses?

It made it like new and went on better than any other auto brand stuff I've used before (Autoglym, Back to Black and all that).
Don't know how it will last, but it smelt nice!
B&Q, about a fiver.

I'll see how it looks tomorrow, but am impressed. I tried a little bit on the black driver's door trim, and that looks good too.
Just don't use a cotton cloth to apply it to be on the safe side.

I'm wondering if I can rub a bit on my Tech 1 steering wheel, leather gaiter etc. Seems it's good news for leather bits too?

An ex of mine once got hired to redecorate her bosses apartment. She was doing sales somewhere, but interior design was her 'thing' and the boss decided to give her a chance. So for a week he moved out to his girlfriends while she transformed the place in the evenings after work.
Sadly, one evening she worked very late and forgot about a heap of linseed-soaked rags sitting in the corner of his living room. She came to work the next morning to the sad news she'd burned his apartment out. True story..

Used it on my tech 1 spoiler almost 2 years ago and it still looks in very good condition. Before I did it was very patchy and grey in places.

As in burned the place down? Does it act like white spirit on a screwed up bit of rag then?snakebrain wrote:

If it has enough surface area (i.e. soaked into a rag) it will spontaneously combust on contact with oxygen over a few hours. The oxidation reaction is exothermic..suedenim wrote:As in burned the place down? Does it act like white spirit on a screwed up bit of rag then?snakebrain wrote:

Something to do with bacteria in the cotton creating heat and oxidization or something. Apparently pistachio nuts will do the same.
Polsta, just rub it into the spoiler with a cloth. Depending how bad it is, it'll take a few coats before it's back to new, but it does the job.
Not a clear picture, but this was mine before:

Two coats got that back to a nice black. It doesn't get rid of the cracks/splits in the rubber though. Took 5 minutes and about 50ml of linseed oil! If you wanted to make it perfect, I reckon Plastidip would be the way forward.
