I'm looking to lower my 320i and cannot make my mind up between the H+R springs and the Eibach Pro-kit springs.

Also I have found the H+R for Ԛ£107 inc vat but I remember seeing the Eibach's for Ԛ£120 late last year, But now the cheapest is Ԛ£141 at motorsport world.

Does anybody know where i can get them cheaper ?.

Opinions on both makes very welcome :D

By the way, the reason I am looking for cheaper prices is that my 2.7 budget was Ԛ£800 but it now stands at Ԛ£1233 and rising, so funds are at a premium

I'll need to re-mortgage at this rate

I hope the missus doesn't read this or she'll :chainsaw: me !

Cheers,

How low are you going?

35mm Avo springs are Ԛ£71.44 inc VAT from Need for Speed

55mm Avo springs are Ԛ£78.14 inc VAT from the same place

35mm H&R springs are Ԛ£107.16 inc VAT from the same place

35mm AND 60mm PI springs are Ԛ£90.46 inc VAT

...all from Need for Speed - www.needforspeed.co.uk

Hope this helps. I am curious about the 55mm AVO springs... might be interested in a set of these myself...

Just pick up an issue of PBMW or something and check out the ads for a load of contact numbers mate.

On the 2.7 budget note, I know exactly what you mean..mine was originally your current figure but it's staying around that mark from selling e30 bits n bobs! What camshaft are you running in it?

P.S Ԛ£800 was cheap i reckon :surrender:

Looking for a 40mm drop max.

Not so keen on Avo, had them on my old Astra GTE and they were hard as hell and only 35mm drop.

Jimbob I'll be running a Piper 274 cam, my parents bought it as a chrimbo gift :D

I started building the 2.7 with the idea that I'll just replace the important bits like bearings and rings etc but it's escalated to the point that if it moves or wears it's getting renewed.

So far I've fitted new :

Pistons/rings/ bearings
Oil and water pump
All new seals and gaskets
All new bolts
Head is ported and polished (DIY) and fitted with new valve guides and valves and skimmed
3 angle valve seats
cam/rockers/shafts/springs
clutch
engine and gearbox mounts
complete 325i exhaust system
coolant and fuel hoses
Ultrasonic cleaned 325i injectors
2nd hand 325i AFM
2nd hand 325i ECU fitted with zone 2.7 chip.

Costa bleedin fortune.

And to cap it all off I refused to let the wife buy a new kitchen this year because we 'couldnt afford it'. We can't now because I've spent the lot on this engine

So yeah Ԛ£800 was very conservative !

Cheers,

Avo's work well on E30's but lokos like every 40mm kit has a different drop!

H&R superb and Eibach just damn too expensive.

Ive had H&R and eibach

eibach are too roly poly, and not as good high speed stability

H&R are awesome on my sport, very stable till end of speedo and corners flat, ride is obviously compromised over the eibach

So for day to day driving and motorway work, Eibachs are the best, while H&R top the stakes in the handling department...?

Gem doesn't want her teeth shaken out like she had in the convertible with the 60mm drop. I can understand that, but I need to lower the car, just for looks sake.

So you reckon Eibach's would be the best bet...?

What about Spax...? They any good?

Karan, would you say that the H+R are too stiff for everyday use ?

I love to tool around on the country roads but do a lot of miles on the motorways and around town too so don't want too hard a ride.

Decisions decisions

Eibachs are easily the best for comfort using standard dampers. The ride is amazingly smooth even when lowered by 30/40 mm.

As someone said earlier, the eibachs are quite soft so if you want firmer springs the h&r might be better.

Btw i heard Boge springs gsf sell are meant to be very good.

The bloke from GSF local to me swears by them, he and his friend both have a set.

Eibach are sounding good for me though... must make sure the girlfriend's happy... but gotta look good doing it!

i've been in Karans car and the ride is no rougher than my sport on standard m-tech. Totally acceptable in my mind for everyday use H&R only Ԛ£350 too!

The only issue with H&R cup is the low ride height and going over speed humps could be quite an issue.

Other than that its defo the best thing you can buy.

Ive been in a car with Bilsteins Sprintline Kit (~Ԛ£450) and thats just rubbish.

H&R is also the best value for money and the highest quality of the lot.

H&R Cup Kit rocks my pants!

for a -60 drop at the front it's really smooth, obviously different from my M-Tech in feel and unfortunately I don't have any other kits to compare to in an E30, but I'd have to say you won't be disappointed with the comfort for day to day driving.

Hmm thats funny when Bilstein make the shocks for the Cup kit, and H&R make the springs for the Bilstein sprintline   you crack me up sal.

Im glad I make you laugh.

I know H&R use Bilstein shocks! Just as Alpina do.

The bilstein kit comes with TERRA springs. The bilstein kit is just soft and horrible and bounncy. Doesnt mean the components are shit, just that its a horrible setup up. Bilstien shocks are superb.

H&R has different specifications thats all hence making the kit alot better.

Theres gotta be some way around the H&R cup kits u l t r a l o w ride height or a kit that runs it close to handling but retains a reasonable height!
My machines an all purpose car (shopping, ferrying friends/family, carrying large amounts of other ppls/own crap etc) and i dont wanna be stumped by speed bumps, multistory ramps, pot holed roads

I know everyone swears by the cup kit, but I personally feel that -60mm is a tad too much for a daily driver on todays shocking roads.

I am running the regular H&R lowering springs (35-40mm ?) will Bilstein dampers, and it's excellent. Mine actually sits a bit lower than this at the front due to the weight of the engine, but the ride actually improved with the extra weight. It was a bit choppy with the M20, but the extra mass of the S50 up front has smoothed it out nicely.

For a daily driver, the H&R springs and Bilstein dampers are an excellent compromise between ride and handling

I did have something really good but it was on a touring.

Koni's all round set to half way + Avo springs. No speed hump problems etc and nice firm ride which at the same time was smooth enough. handling superb.

I also tried Bilstein sports with H&R springs, ride height too low at back and ride overly firm. Tried this on 2 door.

ITs the Bilstein dampers they are very stiff on small impacts when compaired to the Konis. But i find that Bilstiens give me more confidence at high speeds.
