Facelift/pre facelift?

Probarbly another stupid question from me but im going with it anyway. What is the difference between facelift and pre facelift? And how do I know which mine is? I keep hearing people refering to facelift and pre facelift n aint got a clue what there on about

Prefacelift - 1983-1987 (Convertibles went on longer)
Facelift - 1987-1994 Or when ever it was they stops making them

Prefacelift have chrome bumpers front and rear with chrome gutters, window surrounds, different front lights and rear lights are the same as the M3, much thinnner

Facelift have plastic bumpers, most are colour coded but some are just black. Headlights upgraded and the rear lights got thicker.

They are the main difference...

1989. And having read what u have written and looking at mine im pretty certain mines a facelift model. Do u know if there was any interior differences?

Unless yours is a convertible, it will be a facelift model. 1989 was well into he facelift.

Interiors, yes, they vary but only from cloth style from earlier to later models. The seat designs are all the same.

Cheers for all ur help every1. And also thanks for ur patience with all my stupid questions. Im new to the world of e30 ownership n still have alot to learn. My next stupid question would have been "how do i know if i have a m10 or m40 engine?" but i managed to find that out on my own. Yea check me out

Aha... What size engine is your car? Assuming its a 1989 318i then you'll have a M40 dude

Also the rear valance and upper panel are completely different as are the rear arches.

I have one of the last built a 1991 reg Hartge Sport- it has a different rear view mirror from an earlier one I owned in 1989-1994 with built in reading lamps. not sure what else is different in the interiors facelift-to pre facelift though.

Being a 91 it also came with a cat- which caused all sorts of trouble when Birds did the Hartge conversion in the 90s with the ECU.
