Superchargers
Moderator: martauto
Work has been very quiet so iv been browsing the web and thinking ( dangerous as it is ) the plan is after a years experience of driving to m50 the car next winter. The browsing part comes in the form of superchargers....always loved and wanted one. Dont want to over power the car, Rotrex etc boost up to about 300 brake, what would happen if i took a mercedes kompressor and stuck it on?

If declared your insurance will be most likely 10 times the value of the car at least. Even for folk 30+ engine swaps and forced induction can make there insurance ridiculous.
Holy crap you have a blower on yours?! god it must move. Hmmm, insurance might be an issue though. Well...it WILL be. In theory could it be done, a merc kompressor, custom intercooler and a remap and itl run?

euan, to fit & run a S/C is a lot more complex than simply bolting it on with an intercooler & a remap, you have to take into consideration (sp?) where you'll mount it, all the extra pipework, the intercooler size, how you'll run it (aftermarket/standalone ECU) pulley sizing etc etc, there's so many factor's to take in it can be a right ballache.
also IIRC there is the fact that to make a set BHP figure there is the parasitic drag of the charger i;e it need's a set amount of power to run it before you go for your desired BHP out put.
hav a look on amazon there was a book on there all about turbo's & S/C's & how to use them correctly,
another big factor is the cost, cheapest method would be the like's of an eaton M90 S/C from the mini cooper S,
thats before you go looking at the like's of rotrex,
also do you want a rootes or centrifugal (sp?) charger??
google is your friend

If so, lookk for "Appletree" on here , he has a supercharger set up on his M40.

A good book to read on this is called "Supercharged" (I'm going from memory here).
The author is Corkie Bell, his real name i believe
It covers everything, it is considered "the" book to read when supercharging.

Found mini S/Cs for 400 pounds, but wouldnt an m50 rip the shit out of it? Or would it actually provide boost?

Im a sensible driver but then again, i think e30s bring out the bad side in people haha, the side that says " going into that side road broadside is the best thing to do right now "diable wrote:And I said "if you still have it"verde wrote:Thats what I said in the OP. Verde, I think you'll find the M50 plenty quick enough for the first few years of driving. I think tyring to insure that will will knock any FI mods on the head. An M20 swap might be more friendly on the insurance side though being an E30 engine, either way it's going to cost you more to insure than the car is worth.

That's an M42, there's even less sickos that fettle M40sRav335uk wrote: If so, lookk for "Appletree" on here , he has a supercharger set up on his M40.

You need to look at compressor maps to find one suitable for your engine.verde wrote:Found mini S/Cs for 400 pounds, but wouldnt an m50 rip the shit out of it? Or would it actually provide boost?
But a mini one will not be suitable at all. A Mini is what, a 1.6? M50 is a 2.5. You will need a S/C off a similar sized engine for it to work.
Yeah I did some research. If I do itl just save up for a rotrex. Wont be for aaaaagesross_jsy wrote:You need to look at compressor maps to find one suitable for your engine.verde wrote:Found mini S/Cs for 400 pounds, but wouldnt an m50 rip the shit out of it? Or would it actually provide boost?
