E30 318is 4.10 Diff refurbishment

Hi all,

This is my first post, is there anyone out there that could recomend someone that could refurbish my diff as I belive its gone, it makes a shushing sound. any recomendations would be greatfully recived in in Winchester Hants. Thanks

'Gareth', one of my fellow moderators on here, is the man who rebuilds diffs., but for something as common as a 4.1 small case open diff., a good second hand unit would make more sense.

You will pick up a good used 4.1 for 50-60 quid with a guarantee of sorts.

thanks for that but I would rather keep the diff I have and have it refurbished for long time certenty as I will be keeping the car for some time, so if Garath could contact me I would be greatful.

I'm happy to do it for you but it's simply not worth it.
The gearing inside lasts forever, the bearings and seals do not. They are all replaceable though. However it'll set you back around 5x more for a rebuild than a decent used one. If you have that money for a diff, i'd be looking at an LSD.

Or spend the money on something more worthwhile, like a lovely fresh set of shocks, or a weekend away!
