Hi, about a year ago I sadly had to scrap a 325i I bought off of here (rotten underneath). The engine was one of the last things I sold, I put it up for £250 and I had to drop the price to £120 to sell it. A few months later my Mum offered my old e30 back to me for peanuts. I'm gathering bits for a 325i conversion (its a 316i).

I'm struggling to find an engine now for less than £250 - just the engine. I would like one for Xmas, to paint it up and service it etc.

Any idea why the prices seem to have shot up?

Jonesy.

Perhaps due to lack of supply?

I bought a complete low comp auto engine with 100k on here for about the £120-150 mark at the beginning of the year. They're out there. Now it's eating muchos boost after full rebuild.

Be thankful you don't live over here. IF you can find an m20b25 you're looking at a starting price of about 600 quid 8O

Thanks for the replays gents. Yes I did sell it too cheap, hindsight & that :( Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and stump up the cash. I'm not scrimping on the build, but don't want to pay over the odds. Planning on mtb's and stacks as well should sound. Awesome when done :-D

The problem with m20s is most of them are scrap. I have had this bite me in the arse this very week, I have been doing a conversion and knew which of the engines I was going to use. I started going through the engine and the more I looked the worse it got, broken studs, oil in the inlet........

I toyed with the idea of buying another. But yes they seem to have gone up in price. They do all seem to still be there though. :D

I had to take one out of another car in the end, still had to helicoil 2 exhaust studs, replace sump gasket, rocker gasket, cam belt, ect

The thing is they cost around £1500 to rebuild properly, it seems as though the days are gone where once yours has shat itself another one is a few pennies. They have'nt made any new ones for 20 years, and now they are thin on the ground it seems :(

After all that PM is on its way :D

your best off finding someone breaking a car so you can get everything you need and get a decent price on it all,.

I sell everyone I get for £300 + BUT I only sell GOOD engines, with a warranty, that come from cars I have driven and that I can demonstrate to the interested victim.

No cracked heads/ broken exhaust stud/ k sealed scrap sold here ! they get stripped into component form and generally sold for more.

Anybody who has attempted to refresh / repair one of these engines knows how little £300 buys you in terms of parts / labour. Like the cars they are fitted to, most are now rubbish :(

GOOD parts for these cars are getting thin on the ground. There is only one way prices are going for excellent / rare parts :D
