Warning zones e30 on Hertfordshir, which is not as described

I went to view this today:

2hour drive each way so I phoned him first to confirm a few details. Got told: not rot just needs a clean and tlc. Genuine 97k on the clock.
First off mileage is a joke, the speedo doesn't work and the car has easily done 250k judging by smooth steering wheel and worn out interior.
The front floors you can put you arm through and the rear inner arches are gone too along with tailgate and both front arches.
The interior is totally past it, even the headliner is covered in rusty water marks.
At the right price and undertaken as a full restoration project it i s well worth doing. But it is certainly not as described.

You can see the tailgate is rotten and the leathers are well worn in the pics! Would make a good breaker and if it has a few months MOT a decent winter smoker!

Did you do the honourable thing and offer him £500 and drive it away?

It is much worse than pics suggest, but I would have had it for £300, but he was just adamant that it wasn't rusty and I was just making stuff up to knock the price down. Even after I made him look thro the passenger front mirror as I, from the outside, put my finger through the floor and moved the carpet! So I just said no thanks and left.
