Hi people been offered a Motorsport convertible but don't know if its a real one so here goes its macaoblau in colour it's got an electric roof it's got the light grey/ white leather with the blue and red stripes going through the seats it's a 1989 g plate there's no body kit on the car apart from what looks like a tech 1 spoiler so any help would be great

It will be grey leather with the M stripes in the corner then that makes it one of the early ones.
They never had any kit fitted. Just colour code bumpers and extended leather. Sounds like its an unmolested car.

Metal bumpers make it an early one Steve , to be exact it's the second batch to come of the production line
The value is based on the fact it's arguably more desireable. The tech 2 kitted Motorsport cabs have more of following and are if both cars are in equal condition the tech 2 will have a higher value.
Unfortunately too many of the early ones have been bastardised

too true, a few years back it seems everyone was nailing tech 2 kits to em innit,Kos wrote:

I currently have 2, a G plate and an F both sonderlack/Macau that are to be restored..
I always regret selling a very nice Nogaro early turd (press car) a few years back it was instantly bruvved up by the new owner and the rest is history

Motorsport 1's did have kit fitted if you spec'd it (Special Preparation 940) the parts were dealer fitted - I have the original M Technic option booklet and paperwork with car ( bad copy below). Very small M Technic stickers also on valance front (lower left) and rear (above exhaust pipes).

I'm wondering how I can double check to be on the safe side I've been on to the BMW uk website and done the parts catalogue thing then clicked on options but all it told me was the colour and that it has got m-sport suspension and m-sport steering wheel would it be only a dealer that can tell me if its a real one or not

Lift the rear seat up , there should be a piece of paper stapled to the seat with the production number written on it.
I have a H plate motorsport cabby wth tech 2, number 219 from 250.

The bullet-proof way to see if its a Motorsport .................you need to VIN code then phone BMW
"Should you wish to obtain details of a vehicle's specification, or information on the visits to a dealership of a particular vehicle, this is only available by calling our dedicated team on: 0906 209 0001 (Calls are charged at £1 per minute)"
They will tell you if it is a Motorsport it MUST have one of the options below:
Option code 122 'Motorsport Edition' (the later 550 cars Motorsport 2 had option code 798)

Where as 786 is the code for a 'Motorsport' convertible with a badly fitted Tech 2 kit, 60 mm drop , Bks, Clifford alarm and anal eyes

Only on the later cars. metal bumper cars had standard silver BBS.sunnyr83 wrote:^ thats a Tech 1 kit.

They are more valuable because they are rarer. If you want rarity and originality then you have to pay a premium. If its a f*cked over bruved up wrongun then it's worth no more than any other convertible in my eyes.
