Im gonna be even more of a regular than normal on this thread i can see it coming!!!

I visited my "local" stealership parts department today for a few odds and sods. I wanted the rubber strip that runs round the rear bumper on the early Mtech 1 cars. The price?.... Ԛ£64.26 PLUS VAT!!!

Now, i thought, okay, its a bit piece, so i'm okay with that. Its a bit pricey for a bit of rubber, but i'll pay it. Fine. Next i asked about the end caps that fit the Mtech 1 rear bumpers. I couldnt hold my responce, no matter how prepared i was "FUK ME THATS STEEP!!!!" i said in front of about 3 staff! The price for the Rubber end caps?.... Ԛ£31.75 PLUS VAT......... EACH!!! I mean, its a small bit of rubber for fuk sake! how can they justify that???

The front rub strips for the bumper too.... Ԛ£19.66 plus vat PER SIDE!

Yet, the fittings kit for the both bumpers 'only' cost me Ԛ£35 plus vat.

Rant over... for now!!!

Feel free to join in and whinge about prices we get stung for at your local. :x

I've always been surprised at the price of most things I've bought from the dealers, and I'm quite a regular at the Swansea one (I've even chatted M3's to the MD Martin Trainer! guffaw guffaw  )

2 things I've priced up that I wasn't willing to pay, that was a recaro seat back at Ԛ£75 and a glove box for Ԛ£90 something.

I bought a paint kit and keycut from the Stealers, was Ԛ£16 in total! And a gearknob and four bbs Centre badges for about Ԛ£45 too! I felt mildly chuffed 8)
But i have heard plenty o stories about their more extortionate prices :?

Am I missing something there? What's with the numbers you have to navigate through before getting a seemingly random list of parts?

:( dunno dude? first page, choose country, so it can work out postage, second page, allong the edge of the header it should have all the model numbers..

then it gets a bit odd, but i just start with nye dele, means new parts and start from the begining of the list and work through

prices, divide by 10, or 1 tenth of number shown is price into pounds

i think

You reckon i should try Haverford west Bowers independant Simon? Its prolly ever so slightly closer, but a bit longer to get to. Money saved would help tho!

My heart goes out to you Scott...

I remember 10 years back when my 323i got rear ended, the rear bumper assembly then was over Ԛ£350 !!!

Just had to pay Ԛ£20.09 today for a rear headrest fitting kit, bar stewards wont give me a discount at Woods in Bournemouth. Would hve been cheaper to get them from the lovely people at Scothalls in Southampton, but i would have had to get the girlfriend to pick them up. Then i would have to admit to spending money on the car... to make things worse i know i have a headrest fitting kit around somewhere... just can't find anything in my garage at the mo...

Anyway Scott, a nice boy like you can make some good money by .............

I can't see the prices being much different TBH! Get friendly with one of the staff, and get him to order things for you! Speak to Barry when you're there next, he's pretty good.

I know that feeling!

I always try to do secondhand with most parts, except service parts etc.

Scott, I know it's expensive, but your car will be awesome once it's done! You'll be done soon and loving it!

C3 also do main stealer parts cheaper than the stealer. I got the front panel and wing for my m3 a good 25% cheaper from them.

I've been going to the $tealer in Stockport a lot since starting the 2.7 and while some things are cheap like valve springs @ Ԛ£1.80 other things are so astranomical it beggars belief Like :

Leather illuminated gear nob Ԛ£178 plus VAT

Set of Diff bearings and seals Ԛ£186 plus VAT :x

I ended up leaving the gearnob and bought a set of SKF bearings and seals with superior spec from the local engineering suppliers for Ԛ£80 all in.

BMW GB can be downright robbing b :cens: d's.

[rant]
Oh and get this one, picked up a massive order yesterday for all new valve train bits. Got the box home and checked all the parts to find 5 outer valve springs when I ordered and paid for 12, phoned them up to complain and eventually was told that the rest are on back order from germany. Bloody good job I didnt need them for this weekend, I mean they could have said so when i ordered them or even when I picked them up. Tw@ts.[/rant]

Cheers,

You must have one of those faces! It's only about Ԛ£100 from my local dealer, I also only paid Ԛ£70 for a complete all in one leather knob/gaitor from the dealers.

I will only use the dealer network if there is no other avenue of suppliers to use, my favourite is Motormec because I have had good service from them everytime.

My last enquiry at the dealer was for a replacement Bavaria Business C Radio/Cassette - Did not want to upgrade or have one of these all singing all dancing things.....a thief woud just laugh if they saw it and go onto the next car!! - The dealer wanted Ԛ£300 exchange and that was about 2 years ago.

I waited and waited and eventually saw a minter on German Ebay, bought for Ԛ£70 delivered to UK and its perfect, better than the one that came out!

my local dealer (preston farm) quoted me 850 for a 318is exhaust - cookes ferry did it for 450...

other than that most of the dealer prices seem reasonable

Got another rant from today! (i told you id be a regular poster keeping this at the top)

Front grilles (chrome kidney grille and side parts)
Grille left 51 131 876 091 Ԛ£49.21 each
Grille Right 51 131 876 092 Ԛ£49.21 each
Grille Centre 51 131 884 350 Ԛ£41.41 each

GSF Ԛ£10 EACH. Needless to say that i bought the GSF ones till im flush again!!!!!

Schmick, MAKE SURE THE FRONT BUMPER PARTS ARE ALL THE SAME MATERIAL as the "front bumper guard" that i went to pick up today was nothing like the finish of the side pieces, so i told em to get me another one. It looked like it was made of ABS plastic - fcuking shit it was! Finish is NOTHING like the rear bumper rubber or the mtech rear end pieces for the rear! Needless to say that i went fcuking nuts! Make sure Ian checks the finish compatability as it was shocking the difference between them!

What did you think of the quality of the GSF ones mate?

I'm pretty sure you asked me about them before, when I bought some from there, they were both made out of different materials, and they were sh1t! They'll do for now though I suppose!

Si, the GSF ones are slightly different and i WILL be changing them eventually. The centre kidney grille is excellent though, really impressed! The side ones have some cutouts where the BMW ones do not, so for the sake of originality, i will change them. Quality is good for a tenner each though. and i made sure they were the same MFR like you suggested.
