What quick shifter?
z3 shifter is a pleasure to use, just make sure you get the right one. Drove a car which had the quickest ratio and it felt horrible.
Then you have something like the AKG style one:

For the road it really won't be worth it and you will more than likely start wearing synchro's out far faster than normal.

the proper z3 short shift, took my mate 10/15 mins to install, was great in my 318is to drive with,it feels fantastic to change gear with
in my 325 its got all new gear linkage etc and that also feels great, so im sticking with that, and id say actualy allows for faster pulling away if you wished

Z3 1.9 shifter here, did the conversion on a friend's E36 after he felt mine. takes about 30 mins to fit or so, and makes a huge difference.
BMW and Opel, both RWD, both german, both good fun
