my E-thirty has smilies, headlight adjuster that doesn't work & no mini headlight wipers

Can i/Should i bother getting them fitted or are they a MOT failure? Will it effect other drivers cus i hate HIDs that blind people

I just like the way they turn on start dim and go bright

you want 6000k, they are natural, don't go any higher or you will blind drivers and also a good chance you will fail MOT, I have 6000k and mine passed, although it was a mate that did it.

Just make sure your adjusters are set up right, otherwise people will notice it in there rear view mirror if too high, think there only 30-40 new, so you could try and if you don't like it sell them on, or keep the originals to put in for the mot incase you're worried they wont pass and just swap them over for MOT.

As long as they are aimed correctly and aren't a stupid colour, they will pass a UK MOT test with no problem. There's no imminent ban, and the recent test changes aren't relevant to E30s.

Yes Brianis right you want 4000-6000k temp range 6000 is the closest to natural light the higher you go the bluer it is and the lower you go the whiter it is, or maybe other way round but you want 6000k ones if you're going to do it.

it depends on the look you want, 6000k still has a blue tinge. anything higher and you're well into max power muppet territory.

i have 6000s in my bmws but if i was buying again now i'd go for 4800s which are more of a crisp white light.
cheers,

harry

4800k or 6000k, ohh noo which is better. a crisp white would look super clean but i do like a lil bit of blue, tho my car is red so it may look totally wrong like a number 6 eric cantona shirt

:x Nice one harryP you just put another spanner in the works

Both of my E30's have passed MoT this year with modest levels of HiD's.

I took hennabm to a BMWCC meet, and he commented on the way home that my dip beam gave a very good, clear light with a well controlled cut off.

Do these need to be canbus/error free ones?

No, just the cheapest of H1 HIDs you can get from the bay. 35W are great and are really all you need. 55W are brighter but I probably wouldn't bother again since there's only so much light you need in the area covered by the dip beam pattern.
4300k for me, nice and white - not blue enough to make people wonder if they are HIDs.

Definitely 4300k, every time. I have several of my BMWs running these, and the only comment I've ever received from an MOT tester is how well defined the beams are.

Did they ever bring the law in that lights fitted with HID's had to have headlamp washers? Remember reading somewhere they were on about introducing it.

HIDS have ALWAYS required a wash system and leveling system, it is part of the EU regs to get the system certified for use on road cars.
This apllies to manufacture fiited systems.

Aftermarket systems are covered under the new MoT regs.

Alot of the aftermarket ones will fail the MoT because a reflector headlight WILL NOT focus the light correctly,

Agreed.

Just as well for us the BMW were so far ahead of the game when they introduced ellipsoids!
