Ive nowt left to tinker with :(

Im feeling a bit gutted my car is pretty much as I want it... which leaves me thinking Im going to have to make an effort to shift my Mazda bank some wedding money and buy a 325 in need of work.... and a socket set.

That said I also quite fancy a dog and a touring, jeeezo! I am old and indecisive well before my time.

I've got the bug

Anyone fancy paying an awful lot for my 318iS :)

Primer on the inserts was going to do the first coat of shimozin Black today but it's horrendous weather up here today. You don't use lacquer on the black but is there a top coat u put on after a few layers of black?

that would be laquer  :D , but you dont need to as said, 1st coat- a real light dusting, not a mfull coat, let dry, then a full thin quick coat, and let dry, and add a few coats like that

did you remove all the old red 1st or just primer over that ? how about the door mouldings ? they should be like a black rubber finish, really you dont want to rub them down then re paint, and for the materials cost and time and aggro it would be easier to just buy some, and also look oem

Good, Thats the technique I was planning to apply.

I got original black ones that were a bit rough sanded them down a bit then used a fine grade sand paper to smooth them then applied a generous coat of grey primer now its time to go Black

Pondered that myself the other day.... If I ever get the turd as I want it... I'd have too much spare time to think 8O

It would be a 6 series or a merc project.... for the sake of my sanity only

theres always stuff you can do to make it better, replaces bushes/running gear, get in the nooks and crannies and replace fittings etc, carpet out and check the floor, gear linkage and quick shift - a 370 mml tech 2 wheel and quick shift is fantastic to do on and is and really improves the drive and feel

rear head rests really look the business too from inside and out, one of the fave things i did to mine, much more so than i thought they would be

map light mirror is the business too, and rear blind shelf

cruise control ,obc

theres shit loads you can do to spec it up to the nines

my arse kinda falls out when it comes to that stuff!

i dont really know what running gear is yet... and are bushes not something that you replace when u have issues? I dont like the tech 2 that much but havent held one so i wont say no, out of hand.

what does a quickshift do?

i am starting to read into discs and pads brake lines and good fluid (any input would be welcome) I'm thinking changing them but i dont think they are that old i'll maybe contact ian (old owner)

braided hoses apparently make even standard brakes improve tenfold so thatd be worth doing.

running gear and bushes- its just all the stuff underneath the car, track rods etc, its a case of getting it up on a ramp and having a good look at everything, see whats worn and replace- to tighten up the drive and feel, it may not need doing or some may, depends how thourough you want to be and how nice you want the car, things like refurbing the rocker and inlet and plenium, and refurb injectors to get nice clean fuel injection instead of 25 year old if its never been done say

quick shift- a z3 1.9 quick shift kit, a mechanic charge you £10/20 to fit it if your friendly with him if like me youve not got a clue how to, and it makes the gear change quick/notchy/sporty , quick sharp change, its pretty awsome to drive with , along with a smaller steering wheel, nothing wrong with a tech 2 wheel in an is as thats the era of it and it looks great

do your head light ajusters work ? , thats another thing you can do and better bulbs, is every single interior bulb and dash bulb working ? all dash and ash tray bulbs ? the tool kit you can complete and make perfect with nice clean tools, all the boot items aswell etc etc, so much stuff can be done to make it a nicer more complete car if you choose

Quick-shift is basically all in the name. Makes shift-times quicker. Shorter throw if you will.

It also makes the whole car feel tighter as changing gears isn't like stirring a bowl of soup

Its pretty tidy but its on the list to redo its been a few months.

Quick shift is on the list now.

I've set up a spreadsheet lol I'm going to price it up and prioritise whats what and when I am going to get stuck in...

I need to factor in the fact it's ancient and may well need ad-hoc repairs though. am I gay??? I think I'm gay, thats a pretty gay thing to do

agreed epic gayness

joking sounds like a decent plan, to be fair if you ever came to sell the car at least you have a really good track of whats been done when and where.

That's what I was thinking I find it hard to remember what it's got/had and when.

My boss has converted me to speadsheets I'm more of a do-Er than a planner but I. Think in this instance it'll be worthwhile.

I might even do a wee bit of digging and go back a bit using the history/Folder or receipts

You can use this as a template if you like:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/imag ... costs.xlsx

I'm not an Excel fan, but that's what I use to track what I've bought, what I need to buy, and importantly, how much it's all cost me.
