Joy is an old E30
Moderator: martauto
I drove my son's new Ford Focus yesterday. Today I drove to work in my old E30. Hey, I've been missing something! What a wake up call! I suddenly saw my E30 in a whole new light again! I've let her go a bit recently, - bodywork wise, but this is gonna get me back on to her when the weather warms up! Joy IS an E30!

I had a 3 year gap from any 80/90's cars and just sitting in my touring made me smile.
Even the smell!

I went from a modern car to the E30 then back to the modern car for the winter again. Counting the days to be back in the E30.

I frequently open the door on mine and take a sniffsavagehenry wrote:Even the smell!

what i love is when you drive another car/4x4 all winter, more so if its a diesel, and when spring comes you put the e30 back on the road, and its that wonderful spring time and your back in the e30 with a massive smile...brilliant

After you've finished (they are never finished I know) a project, Driving it is very strange. It feels almost wrong to just drive it.capri_rob wrote:I'm looking forward to the 1st of April when I tax my E30

A good trouble free E30 is a joy. In the right car and the right location, there is little better.
An E30 with issues is fatiguing, annoying and makes you want to kick it with heavy boots.

the only thing that really annoys me is when you see another e30 on the road and you flash them and the driver gives you a dirty look because he/she dont realise what they are driving and that their is a e30 scene.probably dont know what the term e30 means either.its amazing when you do see another e30 who flashes back or end up driving behind one which usually ends up in a bit of race

Really, why is that? I don't mind it at all, actually I think it's quite a novelty to find someone who is also an E30 enthusiast.ross_jsy wrote:Hate it when other e30 owners flash me. I don't care that you have the same car as me, go search elsewhere for some friends
Worse are the ones who talk to you at petrol stations, car parks etc

Well, most the people who flash you tend to have some old, chavved up turd. Plus I just find it sad that they are doing it because we own the same car. They aren't exactly rare yet.
The people who talk to me pretty much always fit into that category too. Had a couple of interesting conversations with other owners. But most the time it's sell me your car/body kit etc or rattling on about what their car has had done to it, usually b/s. I don't care!

Im currently driving around in a Rover 400
until April when the sport comes back out, my first stint without her so this should be interesting to see how happy i am to go back to rattling my bones to bits and listening for every noise and being paranoid..
I started her up a few weeks ago and she fired up first time.. the noise (and the smell of the aged leather) already brings back excitement..
I think i speak for many on here who have there e30s hidden away... STROLL ON SUMMER!!
P.s i see no reason against flashing or acknowledging a fellow e30 driver, at this present time im one of a handfull (and the only one with a sport) in the area, turd or no turd e30s are iconic and unless youve been dumped with it after writing off your plastic fantastic punto.. then you have taste!

but thats more than combated by the smiles and joy when you see someone in an e30 who gives you the same smile/look or a thumbs up etcjimbob29 wrote:the only thing that really annoys me is when you see another e30 on the road and you flash them and the driver gives you a dirty look because he/she dont realise what they are driving and that their is a e30 scene.probably dont know what the term e30 means either.its amazing when you do see another e30 who flashes back or end up driving behind one which usually ends up in a bit of race

been driving a range rover all winter, and missing that e30 and petrol, when i sit in it, it feels like im sitting on the floor and strange, doing bits on my car every day at the moment and just giving it the love, its making me more and more hungry to have it finished and on the road, and when i have that 1st drive fully restored, its going to be a fantastic feeling , i hope its this summer
Id been without an E30 for around 3 years having to sell my Tech II sport because of money trouble i really regretted getting rid of that motor i loved it,
In september last year i managed to get hold of a 318i pretty cheap. It wasn't in the best shape but im enjoying doing the work myself its gonna be road registered but i want it for some track fun track mostly so wont be a comfortable drive by any means, but as you've all said i just cant wait to drive it for the first time.
