And (with apologies for the slight hijack) windscreens are identical across models - I have a Touring with a chip in the 'screen, needs replacing ideally, but a 'screen from any E30 would fit, presumably? I can't imagine that there would be a difference, so this probably appears a daft question, but I have learned to my cost not to assume much..!
Thank you.

Yep any screen will fit from either a saloon, coupe, or touring, but the ragtops have a clip for the rear view mirror on the screenSimonTemplar wrote:And (with apologies for the slight hijack) windscreens are identical across models - I have a Touring with a chip in the 'screen, needs replacing ideally, but a 'screen from any E30 would fit, presumably? The only part that could be classified as difficult is getting the locking strip back in, and that only applies if you don't have the special tool for the job.
Locking strip can be replaced with the aid of plenty of lubricant and a flat blade screwdriver, although it's a slow job. Always work towards the glass, not the bodywork, as the screwdriver will slip a couple of times, and it the blade tends to make less of a mess of glass than it does of painted steel, and be careful not to stretch the strip as you fit it, or you will end up with a few inches of strip left over.

That's essentially what the special tool is - mounted on a stick.zaust wrote:^^^ I use a 1mm wire long enough to go round the whole insert for the locking strip, tuck the inside edge of the strip then use the wire to do the outside. Job done. But do use a little lube so as not to damage the rubber.
I started putting my screen back in while it was raining, v hard work so I left it for a couple of hours. By that time the sun came out and the seal warmed up = became more pliable took no time at all. I used a hard plastic tool which reduced risk of damage to paint and glass.
Good luck.
Good luck.
