I checked between windshield and bonnet. All I got were numbers, no letters! Is this normal?

The VIN will be on that plate over the headlight.

If you've no VIN on the bulkhead under the screen, it could be a re-shell.

Should also be on the V5, if you've got it?

Hi Colin,

I would make sure - just in personal interest - that the VIN number you have in the shell matches the V5, as that would indicate that the chassis has always been the same (someone correct me If am wrong). Otherwise, I don't think why it should be a problem.
Are you in UK ??

www.realoem.com

type the last seven numbers in and it will tell you where and when your car was built - if the vin number only has numbers digits it may be an SA import

hey.. Thats a cool site!!

Says mine was built 12/1988. And you can click another button and it will browse the parts list for your car!

Wicked!

Oh.. It is a european model, not SA. But odd how there's no letters! 8O

mine was built 02/89 and its only got numbers, and it was allegedly built as a 2 door - but i've got history going back to 91 saying its a 4 door.
All i can think of is:

data entry c*ckup
customer changed their mind during build
reshell

I agree it is a bit odd but even the stealers didn't blink an eye when i ran the number past them - just muttered something about the bad old franchise days :D
