Just passed the MOT, :D

an advisory on tyres and thats about it! the tester even commented on how clean she was underneath and how many of the suspension / steering parts were new! just shows what a bit of waxoyl every winter and a bit of love and attention (and cash) can do :)

happy! :D

it certainly is! out in all weathers! plenty of wax and decent replacement parts (lemforder, sachs, bilstein, BMW etc..) it pays off in the end! I just changed the waterpump and cambelt etc so I'm doing well so far this year! 8)

nice one. so you wax oil every year? thats something i should start doing. does the underneath need to be 100% rust free to waxoil?

give it a damn good clean and get all the crap out, if there's rust there you should treat it before waxoyling! I've only had the car this year but I did my E21 before her and my E28 before that etc etc and I think it's always paid off! :)

Now I just have to decide whether I'm keeping her or buying the E21 I have my eye on..

it's a battle from time to time but definitely worth it when you get the thumbs up :) always nice when they say how rust free she is too! I still have none round the screen, fusebox, footwells etc.. so it's a nice easy ride so far :)

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is involved in waxoiling the underside of your car? Is it just a case of cleaning everything up, treating any rust, then slapping it all over or do you have to be careful around certain parts etc? I've never done this hence why I ask, could be something il do whilst the motorsport is off the road for winter.

Just make sure you cover your brake disks/calipers

Jetwash to remove most of the dirt, small brush, sponge/hose to get it clean

Treat any rust as necessary.

Apply waxoyl with a brush to exposed surfaces and use an aerosol or compressor/gun for inside box sections.

Make sure any drain holes in sills are clear afterwards.

if you don't find any grot

Be prepared to get covered in mud when you jetwash it

And wear clothes you can throw away when you've finished waxoyling - I put mine in our washbin and the smell of waxoyl contaminated all the other clothes in there for ages afterwards - didnt go down well :o:

Thanks for the advise. I work on a drilling rig so I've got plenty of disposable overalls at hand, perfect for the job.
