hi i bought a 316 touring with a supposudly 2.5 is conv but theres no way it pulls like a 2.5 my mate has a m50 conv and that spins in every gear can anyone help i know im a complete plum for not doing these checks before i handed over the cash but i just fell in love with it

If there's plenty of empty space under the bonnet, it's probably a 1.6. If the underbonnet area is full, then it could be a 2.5.
The 1.6 is a four cylinder engine, while all 2.5s are six. Count the spark plugs or the exhaust manifold primaries.

sorry i should have yer theres six cylnders but just wandering if he might have just put 2.0

The engine code is stamped onto a flat area of the engine block, near the left hand engine mount.
The first two numbers of the code indicate the engine size - 16 =1.6 litre, 20 = 2.0 litre, etc.

Is not the Inlet Manifold a different shape on a 2.0 as well :?:

yer it says 25 hmm dunno then need to give it a good service maybe bit pissed as cnt even drive it yet its stuck on the drive but this horse needs to be galloped

maybe was looking at a turbo kit for it 750 for whole set up on ebay

It'll cost a whole lot more to turbo than that. Those kits are rubbish and are best avoided

Before you do any mods to an engine, you need to get it working as it was when it left the factory.
Even then, a 2.5 M20 is going to be no match for a healthy M50B25. Those 20 odd horses make a lot of difference, and your mates car may be running a lower diff. as well.
