Forgive my dumbness is that the timing chain and tensioners? Did you stick with the s14 ones or did you go for the upgrade?

Charlie
Hi Charlie. The pictured parts are the cam & crank sprockets, idler sprocket, timing chain, upper & lower guides and both tensioner pads. The parts are standard and as far as I know cannot be upgraded. Not pictured is the actual chain tensioner, the stock item can be upgraded to the E36 or E46 item.

That part was the long tensioner pad (on the right, third from top in pic) which was £225+vat.

Whilst these parts are eye-wateringly expensive,at least they are available!

And as they are direct from BMW,they will fit, perfectly, first time.

Back when I was running my Daimler,I needed a waterpump....no longer available as new/old stock,David Manners Ltd at Oldbury had commissioned a run of replica waterpumps at about £120 a pop,but no-one bothered to point out to muggins that they needed 'fettling' to fit,I broke the alloy mounting plate trying to slide this oversize pump home, and of course, waterpump mounting plates were also no longer avaialable.....

Then when I had sorted all that out,the bloody radiator core started to leak....

You got a major dry bumming there
Just think, you would be well on your way to a proper engine with that sort of money :)
