1990 325i sport gear box.

Im thinking of changing out my gear box as its starting to get very noisey when the car is out of gear on idle... many have said its more than likely the shaft... my question is what can I exspect to have to pay for a good secound hand box and do the owners of noisey boxes like mine normally go mad from the sound before they actually break ?

it won't break. They ALL do it, just a getrag thing. I've had a 60,000 miles sport that did it then!

Its was quite noisey anyway but now its started to rattle a tiny bit even with my foot on the clutch.... Murphy will that box be the same as mine ratio wise ? are secound hand boxes realy that cheap !
