ok

i have a 325i touring

1989 red manual

has close ratio gearbox and LSD

the car has been mot'd in 2007 then parked up out door.

it has been started every 6 months and taken for a spin

the brake pedal goes to the floor and it will idle but if you press accelerator it chucks for 1 sec then revs freely
i am thinking of recommissioned it to the road.

could you advise on what is needed for it to pass mot

i will be having it fully poly bushed

do i need to change all fluids, LSD, gearbox brake etc

it just depends on the car what it needs for an mot, i had bought a 318 that had been parked up for a while and i needed to replace most of the bushes and steering rack to get an mot i was lucky it didnt need welding or anything else major in essence the car needs to be safe for the road i guess if you took it for an mot and failed you will know what it needs to pass

Don't get too obsessed with poly bushes, just do what you need for the next MOT and then take it from there. First thing is to get it up in the air and check it underneath for rotten rubber and rusted metal and before you drive it anywhere at all make sure your brake lines are good! You'll probably need new disks/pads if they've rusted up.

I change all the fluids on a car when I buy it, it's the only way to be sure - and your brake fluid and coolant will definitely be out of date anyway.

A car that has been parked up like this will almost certainly have steel brake lines, and possibly fuel lines that look at first sight like they're badly rusted, and attract the attention of a MOT tester. A rub over with your fingers or a bit of emery cloth will greatly improve their appearance.
