Are all BMW front springs the same diameter? I.E could 318is springs (larger diameter front struts) fit normal 316i struts (small diameter front struts)

Now I want to know could u use the front springs from any BMW (ala E36, E46) in ur E30 ?? And what about the 4cyl ones ? I know u shouldn't use them cause they aren't mean't to be used with a 6 cyl engine, but is there anything else ?
