What a great invention
Moderator: martauto
Well the cab had her first 2011 outing yesterday (apart from the MOT last week), 50 miles, roof down, sun blazing, music on = ENJOYMENT.
What added to this was the new wind deflector I bought from ebay, £110 well spent in my opinion, on the motorway there is just a hint of buffing, around town you wouldn't know the roof was down and gave less turbulance than having the windows open on the tin top.
I've never driven a car with a deflector before, I'm well impressed!

You won't find a genuine one for that price, they are on ebay buy I bought from the seller direct in Belgium.

The pic of the deflector isn't the exact version, the E30 version has tabs on the sides at the rear to fit underneath the horseshoe.
It fits by sliding into the space near the front seat belts, if anything a bit tight, it's very secure and never going to move.

This is a genuine BMW one,bought s/h;

To fit,lift horseshoe,engage the springclips into the upper front seatbelt slots and pull to the rear so that the rear part engages by the horseshoe lock.
Takes about 10 seconds to fit/remove!
Only drawback is that the rear seats are unusable by humans whilst it is in place.As I rarely carry rear seat passengers this does not worry me at all.
Transforms the car,less buffeting than you get with a saloon with the sunroof open,but you get the full 'open car' beniefit.
Leaving the thing in place with the hood up enables you to leave property on the rear seat/rear footwell areas that are not visible to passers by.

I don't "get" them. You buy a convertible to feel the wind in your hair. These ruin the line of the car and defeat the object of the whole concept. They are for women that wish they'd bought a saloon cos their Perms keep getting messed up

Given that at 70 MPH, with the roof down and no deflector, you'll lose most things out of your cockpit and you get a load of cold air on your neck. With one of these, it's much easier and you can also hear the stereo.B7 wrote:I don't "get" them. You buy a convertible to feel the wind in your hair. Be assured, you still get the wind in your hair with a wind deflector, you just avoid the crick in your neck and your 7 quid packet of fags won't sprout wings and fly over your shoulder

You have door pockets, Glove box and a boot to put things in and if that ain't enough, put your fags in your pocket.Topblag wrote:Given that at 70 MPH, with the roof down and no deflector, you'll lose most things out of your cockpit and you get a load of cold air on your neck. I came round the m25 the other week from Si's with the hood down and the cruise set at 80 and trust me, I never felt any crick in my neck.
If music is more important, buy a car with a sunroof.
They are for poofs. End of!
Oh, and you loose the use of the back seats as well. The EXACT reason I bought a convertible e30; so ALL the family can enjoy it.

Ive got one and am completley hetro sexual!!!
Actually if you take a female out with the hood down and no deflector she aint with you long!!Hope this thread isnt serious.
Im very tall and have the back section of the drivers seat leaning back so far that the handle for lifting the seat up to get rear passengers in rubs on the rear panel.Would there still be enough room to get a deflector in.

This was a real hoot to drive 30 years ago with no wind deflector;

These days,this is far more refined and civilised;

Time,and particularly age,tends to change one's outlook!

You sure you have Cab seats.a8dyc wrote:Im very tall and have the back section of the drivers seat leaning back so far that the handle for lifting the seat up to get rear passengers in rubs on the rear panel.Would there still be enough room to get a deflector in.
Cab seats do not recline that far back, they have a stop built into them, reason, so it doesn't foul the deflector.

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!
CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL

Well I bought one recently, wasn't really fussed myself but it's shuts the missus up! I was sick of getting places and waiting ten minutes for her to sort her barnet out, so it was either buy a deflector or shave her head in her sleep!! They do a good job but I admit they are a bit of an eyesore.
i have to agree with Trev (and others)on this one.B7 wrote:I don't "get" them. You buy a convertible to feel the wind in your hair. These ruin the line of the car and defeat the object of the whole concept. They are for women that wish they'd bought a saloon cos their Perms keep getting messed up

Get a f* grip,we are talking about 20+yr.old sub £10k cars here,NOT the crown jewels!
I dont have a cab, and was not going to comment on this thread but after seeing the pic above I would say a definite no go for the deflector.daimlerman wrote:This was a real hoot to drive 30 years ago with no wind deflector;

No deflector on mine but can see why some would want one.
