Came behind a Porky C2, lorry had slowed us down to 2nd gear, C2 floored it, I floored it. Rev limiter in 2nd, 3rd and 4th he lifted off at 130. Carried on for 20 miles playing follow my leader at 80 / 90, he gave a wave and we went our seperate ways.

Two months later a mate said "a mate of mine was well pissed off could not loose a M3 (e30) like yours"

It was a C2 911, 3.2, I think 245BHP, it pulled away a bit at the top of 2nd and 3rd rev. range. I was in my first M3 1990 215BHP it had done 26K then.

that's an old one then - 964? about the same age as your M3?

they are the ones that tend to go off into the undergrowth; I've been driven in 993s and 996s and driven a 1986 Carrera, but never a 964.

The old-old-old 911 used to have a paragraph in the handbook 'in the event of excessive oversteer, one method of recovery is to release the steering wheel and fully depress the accelerator - the car will straighten itself.'

they removed the paragraph sharpish... cant think why :D

Yep, thats right, I've had a 1986 Carrera and a 1985 Carrera, no ABS no nothing. It took me 6 months to get to know them been on the track with them, hope to get another next year. Beleve or not they understeer into a corner you feed more power until you start to oversteer. Aslong as you don't lift off your OK. Never tried the let go princple would need my brown pants for that.

My M3 different easer to handle, turn in fantastic, drifts in to oversteer, LSD comes in, keep Power down and feed in a bit of opo lock. Great feeling. Looking forward to the track day in S. Wales on the 29th Oct.

Mate's on his 4th 911, fookin fast, his first 3.2 911s coupe was 1985 5.2 0-60, next was a 1990 964 with 3.6 c4 5.6 0-60 260bhp. now has a 993s c4 not as quick as the early ones though. Deffo feel a lot quicker than an E30 M3, as they have all kept with and taken E36 M3s. Very quick the 911.

911's do hold a lot of track records, I have owned 2 911's and every model M3 up to the present (2 E30's). The age old problem, what is the best? Every car has it's good and bad points. A mate of mine said whats your ideal house, I replied loft flat above a five car Garage. 911, E30 M3, E type, LT35 VW brakedown flatbed truck (158 bhp) and a Lotus Cortina. Sad or is that sad.

E30 M3 may not be the fastest but it's got a lot of charm and all round ability.

For what it's worth, very subjective!! There is no right solution.

I had a race with a 997 Carrera S recently. I was out for a run with my mate and his other half, this guy came up behind us in the Porsche and made a stupid overtaking manoeuvre, put the shitters up my mates other half. :x So I went after him, sat up his chuff for a few miles, went up beside him coming out of corners just to show him I could if I wanted to, then sat behind him again. :snigger: He was getting really pissed at this and started dabbing the brakes on the straights - he was getting dangerous, so I gave him a wave and pulled in to wait for them to catch-up.

Then again I was on my bike...

And he was a shit driver!

Some silver spoon tosser with a Hugh Grant hair cut showing off to his mate, more money than skill, tossers like that shouldn't be allowed to have nice cars, they should be forced to give them to us - by law! :D winkeye
'89 325i - was an SE but not anymore, was bronze-beige metallic (yeuch!) but now techno-violet (thankfully)
'89 Toyota Corolla GTi-16 - track, hillclimb & sprint car (yeeha!)
'08 Buell XB12Ss - American engineering at it's 'best'... good fun though
