hi guys can anyone tell me where the engine number is located on a c2 and how can i tell what a genuine engine and parts look like for example the manifold. i've asked the guy for all the info like the engine number chassis number plaque number and the original date of manufacture and im waiting for him to get back in contact with me so i can call sytners but he says that they won't give me the info.... is that correct? thanks!

he is right, sytners have tightend up on disclosing info to general public, the only way now is to have a formal letter from the "seller" giving permission relating to the alpina car.


as for what to look for, it should defo have a satin grey rocker cover, inlet manifold is satin black on later e30s, but earlier ones like mine are silver, check the bottom of dipstick, should b smoothed plate with 4 digit alpina number which either correspodences to plaque and/or last digits of vin in some cases. The head should have unique 4 digit stamp on the head on the inlet side i.e. if looking from passenger side of car.

Often some initials will be stamped on rocker/throttle body of person who worked on engine. All the above is for the C2 2.7

6 branch can vary in shape but the bore should be larger than standard for the alpina exhaust which has a widewr diameter than stanadrd 325i exhaust for improved gas flow

b) Prevent fraudseters/wananbees "borrowng" vin numbers to order bits for their 316

thanks hap just waiting for sytners to call me back then i can find out if its a genuine one or not. it has got the black rocker cover and inlet manifold so we'll wait and see... if the numbers match i'll get myself down to view it!
