Just put my '30 in for a service :(

Its my best mates dad thats doing it, i trust his work, hes top notch infact, but his garage has cars everywhere, im paranoid some fool is going to hit my car when its in

Should be worth it though, few wee niggles that i hope a thorough service will get rid off, (missfire/lumpy idle/whiny diff)

Just had to get that off my chest.....  :D

Cars been serviced and is running nicely :D

But....

It needs:

brake lines
power steering gaiter
front o/s ball joint and bush
front discs and pads
rear brake shoes

:( :( :(

He showed me all the "defects" and the brake lines were rusted through almost :? :(

Anyone any idea what kind of money im looking at for the above parts? :-x

It needs:

brake lines- I paid Ԛ£25 a side for the front to rears

power steering gaiter-B43105 STEERING RACK BOOT E30 -PAS +Steering Damper RH 4.20

front o/s ball joint and bush-B42047 BALL JOINT-OUTER(BQ) E30 316i 88>91 OUTER BQ 11.00

front discs and pads-B60121 BRAKE DISC-SOLID E30 316 / 316i / 318 / 318i / 324TD 14.50 x2

pads-B64026F BRAKE PAD SET-PAG.FAST RD E30 316i 88>91 FAST ROAD +1X B64112 27.00

rear brake shoes-B63015 BRAKE SHOE SET-REAR E30 316i 88>91 -ABS 14.95

thats roughly Ԛ£160 inc vat

you can fit the pads/shoes and disks yourself, but if you dont have a garage get someone else to do the brakelines

hope that helps

hehe aint that the truth, when ever you send ur car into a service they always find something wrong. I sent in my car, and when i got it back from BMW, they gave me a list of things that needed fixing, water hose, oil gasket, prop shaft cupling, new hooters, new temp sensor, cambelt...etc.etc.. crazy!! :)

See thats why I dont really trust garages.

If you went there and they point out the faults then all well and good, but sometimes I get the feeling they rip the pi$$ sometimes.

If a garage tells me that x,y, z is wrong I make them ramp it and show me. and when they fit the new parts I mark the old ones and ask to see them once they're finished.
