while gently cruising at indicated 144mph (on the autobahn!) with standard size tyres, i had 132mph according to my tomtom. Over-reading by 9%...

I wonder how many will still do their top speed without exploding! :)

was that with the M30 in it?
I think I'd feel a bit unhappy at those speeds, my steering would be pretty light....

Yep, when it had the 3.91 diff. That's when it hit the rev limiter in 5th. I also hit that on the 'ring!

I've not had clear traffic to get beyond a tomtom indicated 140 since  sods law, drive right through germany on the way back from italy but it was busy or wet most of the way :( It's not a game to play in bad conditions... Also, folks strangely don't expect a E30 to be doing that speed so they pull out on you! The cheek of it!

It's actually very stable at those speeds. I doubt it would be as stable on standard springs / dampers though

A genuine 135, on the flat on a still day? Not too many I'll bet, or they'll get there but be engulfed in their own steam cloud shortly after!
cheers,

i remember testing the pina touring once not long after we bought it. Hit the limiter in 5th with ease. Its now got a 3.73 and will still do it. I doubt it would with a 3.64 but i'd like to try!

Was on about 5500 revs and peddle not on the floor - felt solid and no vibrations through the wheel or anything. Didn't have a tom tom though so maybe real speed was just under 130 - will have to make a trip to das vaterland for ein other go :D
