Just wondering if my MPG reading on my computer would be right? Anyone tried working out their fuel consumption and then comparing it to the computer?
I drive about 40 miles a day, to work and back, lots of stop start traffic and a bunch of hills; my comp in my 325 auto cab says 19.4mpg! I filled my car up yesterday - 40.37litres for 208 miles; that works out about 23mpg. 4 miles out, but 23 aint to good is it? Should I expect low 20's from my 325 for town/city driving?
My 2nd question is about my boot; its a right pain to shut, you really gotta slam it hard or wont stay closed! Thus, from the previous owners, all along the boot is little dends from peoples fingers and the pressure needed to shut the boot. Anyone experience this? And does anyone know of anywhere I can get these little dents sorted?
Cheers guys
Couple of quick questions?

I pretty sure the OBC is not that accurate in MPG readings, lots of people find this.
20ish MPG is about right for a 325i, give it a good service (air filter) this will help a lot.
the latch probably need lubricating, so that it pops out properly.
As for the dents... no idea

On my old e30, the 2 bumpstops on the underside of the bootlid could be adjusted, i actually used these to get a better close - maybe these have come out a bit, they are threaded and hence are adjustable...BUG4LIFE wrote:My 2nd question is about my boot; its a right pain to shut, you really gotta slam it hard or wont stay closed! on my old se i found the obc underread by about 2mpg ish.
as for 20ish mpg being about right well id disagree.
around town theyre pretty crap, but on a run at a steady speed u shud be able to see high 20's (or maybe even 30+ depending on ur right foot and the diff fitted)

On my next Motorway journey I'll reset the comp and see what it says then; yeah I'd expect high 20's on that kind of run - but the way I go to work couldn't be worse; over the Malvern hills, stop start stop start all the way and then hit Worcester traffic.
What sort of range are you guys getting? My previous car [a 1.8T New Beetle], I used to see 280ish miles to about Ԛ£40-45 of 98ron fuel. My first 2 fill-ups on my 325 I only got just above 200 on Ԛ£38 of 95ron - though I haven't let the fuel warning light come on yet, reckon I could get close to 250 miles?
Any answers to getting my dents sorted too?

Best way to fix trunk lid dents is to grab a discreet, fitting spoiler. The Mtech 1 flat rubber spoiler looks perfect on any E30, as does the 318IS spoiler.
The rubber ones arnt too expensive, are easy to paint and fit, cover up any damage to that area, and better yet, prevent further damage. It acts as a handle more than serving any aerodynamic purpose, and the rubber allows you to put more pressure on it and slam it better.

Yeah I did think about a spoiler [acting as a handle]; but I'm not really a spoiler fan on a cab, no matter how small, think they mess with the smooth lines of the car...and the fact I dont wanna mod my Motorsport.

Ah, didnt notice you had a cab. Still, the near invisible lip spoilers do the trick, see how small they can get.

Fuel sounds about right, mostly low 20's. I had both a manual sport and my cab auto last year and the manual sport was noticeably better on fuel. Kinda over revs a lot does the auto cab, bit more weighty too. Even on longer journeys, such as motorways, you will still rev a lot when overtaking, slight inclines etc.
BTW, bet you can't drive it NICE for too long to get good MPG anyway!
