Whatever you do don't buy from HID Direct on eBay. One of my e39's ballasts popped a couple of days a go and they ain't returning my calls or mails. F*ckers stated 2 year warranty as well. Bought them in April and they've been nowt but aggro. Bulb holders do not fit properly and now this.

I got mine from ebay, it's a simple job and as stated makes one hell of a difference

You can see the contrast between the sidelight and the HID

I gotta say, I bought a set from HID direct, they came quick and fitted with no problems at all.
But I have heard quite a few people having problems with them.
and alot of people with no probs at all.

4300k here for maximum light but yes, hid are the way ahead!
I have had two sets from Ebay now without problems. I wouldn't put any store by an Ebay warranty but they're cheap enough to just replace even compared to some conventional bulbs.

If a company states "2 year warranty" then they should stand by it. Not everyone can kepp blowing £70 every 6 months.Morat wrote:4300k here for maximum light but yes, hid are the way ahead!

Mine were £35 and that isn't much for a pair of HIDS, especially as they are coming up to 18 months old without problems. The previous set lasted a year before the car was crushed with them still in itB7 wrote:If a company states "2 year warranty" then they should stand by it. just intsalled these. bulb holders are a tight squease, but other than that all good...possibly regret not going for a 55w kit rather than a 35? 4300k is the one!

high beam ones would be a lil bit of a waste i think, they hardly get used... But no mine are jus standard high beam bulbs....gareth wrote:are you guys just fitting them to the outer (dip beam) lamps or the inner (high beam) ones too?

Call it OCD if you like but having nice bright dipped beams and then switching to 'brown looking' dim high beams would annoy the hell out of me! And i use high beam whenever it's dark and nobody is coming towards me, quite a lot of the time!

You don't switch... the mains come on at the same time - and get nearly completely drowned out by the HIDs anyway.

Just get some "super blue" bulbs or similar. Stonesie had some LED sidelights that were a good match for his 6k HIDs

They've finaly responded and are going to replace the ballast. Got to return mine first.

One of the best mods for an e30, especially at night
hids take a few seconds to 'warm up' to full brightness, maybe 3-4 seconds or so. theyre also not that keen on being cycled on and off.gareth wrote:What's the reason for not using them?
youre better off sticking to hids for the dipped and sticking some 100watt white bulbs in the mains.
and some white led sidelights to match the more pure light.
compare the two... (theyre not really green, they upset the cameras white balance a bit)

cheers,

Rewire the main beams from the fuse to the lights, and the earths from the lights to the earthing point on the LH inner wing with 1.5mm2 or 2.5mm2 flexibles for the best effect. Tri-rated cable is ideal.harry_p wrote:

Change the main beam fuses to 10A.

the new cars I think are 4300k maybe 6000k max. You get them cheap on eBay i bought mine for my mk2 Golf I only paid £46 but I had to get Bi-xenon because of the main beam and headlights you wont need that because there separate on the e30 so it's cheaper. They're Chinese but work all the same!
