Hi everyone

just like 325dude's earlier thread - I just finished my own 2.7 conversion last night at 9.30pm - and brought my car to work today to begin the running in process!!

I have done it slightly differently - used a decked 325i block - early pistons - eta crank - v.light flywheel - black diamond clutch - all fully balanced - schrick 284 aswell and cleaned up the head. Got to fit the BBTB - which i'll probably do tonight - and then when run in i'll fit the 2.7 van aarken hot chip. Finally the car will go to BTB this or next week for a full system.

It's a lot work especially if like me and my mates you screw up and inadvertently put in a late version flywheel without the trigger for the sensors on the bellhousing - when you are using the early motronic - bollocks! Gearbox out again!

First impressions are that the engine pulls strongly and it is definitely quite free reving - bit of restraint is gonna be required for the next 500 miles.

Also doing this job has shown me just how rubbish the haynes manual for even basic stuff - the only use we found for it was as a place mat for beer cans in the garage...

Also i got all the bits from from the zone to do this job so a big up to 325tracky, taffy and some others i bought stuff off

Well done!! Another 2.7 is alive!

I can understand the JOY of completing a project, mine took nealry a year in the end, but the feeling when it fired up for the first time is something else.

Pics and vids asap please!!

cheers guys :D

i'll try and get some pix organised in the next day or so - car itself is just quite an ordinary looking 325isport mtech1 - with H&R kit/stripped with cage/buckets and stock 15" BBS - gonna get a 316 badge and maybe a single exit pipe for that stealth look

i'll sort the vids when i get the new exhaust on - with a proper road test.

it took about 4 months building the motor (big thanks to david c on this)and last weekend 2 x 12 hour stints to remove old and fit new - and then 7 hours to undo the cock up with the wrong flywheel yesterday and get her started

problem now it's finished i am looking at what you guys have done re: turbos and blowers and i am thinking i need to get to the next level. when you're underneath the car at 10.30pm trying to do up the inaccessible top gearbox bellhousing/block bolts - you think NEVER AGAIN!

- but when you fire it up for the first time it all worth it :)

i have been grinning all day at work today and can't wait to drive home in it - everyone here thinks i have been hanging out with kate moss in a recording studio... 8)

not sure about bhp to be honest - rolling road trip when run in seems in order - i see jimbob's 2.7 is good for a real 200bhp - which seems a good ballpark figure to aim for - i guess from a stock 325i the variables are:

extra 200cc
cleaned up head
BBTB
trick chip
schrick 284
full btb exhaust - manifold and system

so you'd hope for 30 bhp from that little lot - but i am confused that other 2.7's seem to produce a lot more for a similar spec - so i guess it's a case of putting it on the rollers for the moment of truth in 2 weeks!

well done matey.
i know, all to well, the feeling of lying on your back, thinking should i be here!
but like you say, hearing it fire up for the first time is magic.
then you forget the hard parts.
good luck with it!
