At a small classic car meet, they took three E30 convertibles and smashed them into each other in the usual TopGear way. Now I can understand why Marina and Allegro owners would be irate, but even any moron know there is a huge following for any E30, let alone a convertible, so I hope they get stick for it, I really do. As my form of protest I will not watch the episode where this is screened and will comment on the TopGear website. There are guys out there who can't afford a decent E30. The numbers are dwindling and the last thing I want to see is some morons smashing three decent cars into each other thinking its a bit of a laugh.

Thing is look what happened when the Marina owners club complained..

.. I guess I'm not pissed off about Clarkson & co, more so the directors of TG who tell them to do this sort of crap.

And complaining would probably just make the E30 another target to destroy for sake of 5 seconds of entertainment.

I'm speechless, angry & which all hatred upon Clarkson & Co. I "used" to be a big fan of Clarkson for his stupidity and his incredible films he made for TG, but now.. I'm just gutted.
Everyday an E30 loses it's life around the world, some people who can't afford a decent E30 would die for one, me included... I'm pretty sure now that they are all mentally challenged and hope that get alot of hate mail and negativity for this. How could they do such an awful deed :(? :x

As long as it aint my own car they destroy then I see no problem. For we know they could have been rotten to the core but looked fine on the outside ( hidden rust on an e30 never! ).

It's not like they are destroying rare M3's or Alpina's , Hartge , ACS ect ect. I find it irritating that they show a lack of respect when they crash them at shows like they did with the Alfa's but like I said it's not my car so no blood no foul.

I am sure the BMWCC will be pleased to see more 2p cars disapearing off the face of the planet. After all they spoil the secenary when one goes to the south of france for a car club wine tasting meet.

Don't really see what the fuss is about TBH.

From what I understand Top Gear don't use particularly good cars for the "challenges" - usually its stuff thats very tired or there is something seriously wrong with it anyway ( Look at Hammonds previously crashed E36 M3 in the last series )- the cars they use won't be shiny garage queens laden with rare morsels. They will be bottom end stuff thats MOT'd - the BBC wouldn't waste license payers money buying a £5k Motorsport cab to smash up when they can get an MOT'd sh1tter for £600.

There are plenty of Zoners fragging saveable MOT'd E30's every day because they are worth more in bits - and every one that goes on the bridge pushes up the value of the ones that are left by that little bit more.

i'm sure they'll use rotten scrap as they actually want the cars to fall apart, and i for one will admit i find it funny when they do this to other cars and their challenges are entertaining. the fact it's an e30 will make me a little sad, but how long before the cars would have been crushed anyway? no point complaining as they are immature and will just trash a good one probably........remember clarko is the kind of guy who insults the disabled!

Is it worth complaining? Do we really want E30 owners to become moaning turds akin to the morris owners?

Live and let live, as above they won't be "good" examples anyway. And it bumps up the value of every other cab as there is a few less on the road :D

Have to agree with Mr snakebrain on this, far more important things to
worry about than this issue.
A lot of Crocodile tears being shed imo, would,nt be the least bit suprised if
one, if not all three, had been sold to TG by a Zoner.

I'll probably be slightly more annoyed than last time they accidentally repeatedly drove into each other. Purely because the 'joke' is getting older and older! But if they actually come up with something new, I won't be worrying about the scrapyard dodgers that they ruin.

You do realise by making a big scean youll be playing into there hands and they will just break more, look at the allegro issue, the more people complaine the more pianos they dropped on them....funny to watch untill its an E30

this is just a big publicity thing as the more you talk about it the more viewers they get, there like a bully give them a reason and the response they want and it will just get worse....

i love top gear but do agree anyone smashing a decent E30 cab in this way should be shot but give them reason to break more and they will do it.

Bah, there are plenty more out there and at least they had a good send off.
And they didn't do it with tourings :)

I remember the feverish excitement on the fiat coupe forum when TG bought a Fiat Coupe. Was this going to be the moment when Coupe mania was launched across the country by a strong review from the TG Team? No, Clarkson stuck his crappy off-centre "boadiceas" on it and drove the poor car until the vibration shook the wheel off. "Ahh, unreliable Fiat what do you expect".

Sadly, TG isn't interested in old cars apart from killing them so accept it and just enjoy the show!

most of us sit and watch Top Gear & no doubt have a bit of a laugh when the guy's smash up other marques of car's .. whats the differance if it's a rare old Marina or a E30?? it'll still make for good TV :) & there are probably a few cabby owners sitting wondering right now "i wonder where they scrapped them?"

another way to look at it is, they have made a fairly rare car rarer which can only be a good thing for folk with good, strong example cabby's

i'm pretty sure there was a post a while back saying that someone knew of a guy that sold there E30 cabby to the producer/makers of Top Gear?

all it will do is advertise E30's and push up the prices even if they are rude about them and smash them up. who cares if they smash up cars. they bought the car from someone so they can do as they wish with it.
if they bought my car for use in this i wouldnt care less as long as i had the money in my pocket!

If anyone from this site makes any complaints, it'll play into Clarkson's hands and there's a risk that the E30 will become their next figure of hate i.e. the next Marina.

Let's all keep calm and keep our thoughts within this forum, and let's have a laugh about it, after all, there's nothing we can do to influence their behaviour.

If they chose an E30 cab for crashing, they chose well. I wouldn't want to be playing dodgems with a Pug 306 Coupe, for example.

As far as the great unwashed are concerned, the E30 is just an old banger. In all honesty, there should be more of a fuss made about a Marina or Allegro being destroyed - horrid old cars that they are, they are now - probably due in no small part to their utter shiteness - fairly rare. You can't say that about the E30. It's just an old car that is neither old enough nor rare enough for anybody to care really. You also need to remember that E30 drivers in the eighties were the ones who originally gave BMW drivers their bad reputation. The E30 is seen by many as an icon for a lot of what was wrong with the 1980s.
