just wondering if this was a 325 and "not" a 320, it looks nothing like my engine and mine is a 325?? to mee it seems a lot smaller, the only thing that makes me thin it is a 325 is because there is no battery there, thinking of buying it but i just wanna be sure its what i want 1st! not too clued up with the engine side of things so any help would be magic, cheers ppl!

pic is too small, i cant see a thing there.

one thing i noticed that the expansion tank is on the other side comparing to my 325i, but i never seen m20b20 engine, so i'm not too sure...

Look below the intake mainfold, you should find some numbers casted in the engine block....

first two digits are the displacment....
so if it says 20XXXXXX then it's a 2 liter m20b20
if it's 25XXXXXXXX it's 2.5 liter m20b25

Aswell, there should be metal "sticker" somnewhere under the bonnet (on my 325i it's abouve the RHS headlamp), what should tell you the exact engine cc and other usefull info (like max gross weight, etc)..

hope that helps :)

I'd say it was a 2.5 but without seeing it in person it could be a 2.0 with a 2.5 manifold !
Probably a 2.5ltr though.

Sorry to butt in here but the numbers on my block below the inlet are:

1289575 29c89

What does this mean? Is the first part the engine number just?

Apart from the air intake set up, that looks like the underbonnet view of an ordinary 325 to me.
Stick the VIN into an ETK.

If it looks different to your 325i engine than maybe it was a 325i (hence the battery in the boot) but someone is trying to pull a fast one and has fitted a 320i motor.
On the exhaust side of the cylinder head just above the exhaust manifold, between the sparks for cylinders 1 and 2 will be a small round circle with 2.5 2.7 cast into it, if its a 2.5ltr.

All the face lift cars had the expansion tank behind the nearside headlight, the pre face lift have them on the driverside.

I could be wrong then?? :?

Just from the 'early' and 'late' cars Ive seen, it seems to the case.
Mind you, Cabs are always a little strange :surrender:

Your cab looks like a facelift car though, it's got facelift headlamps.

James is right though, pre-facelift drivers side, and facelift on the passenger side.
